U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry, R-New Iberia, continues to steamroll his way through GOP officialdom as he picks up more endorsements from Republican parish executive committees. According to Lake Charles’ American Press newspaper, the tea party favorite and freshman congressman has gotten the endorsements of two-thirds of the parish executive committees in the new 3rd Congressional District, which is more or less Congressman Charles Boustany’s current 7th Congressional District.

Landry has now gotten the backing of the executive committees in Acadia, Iberia, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes. That’s six of the nine parishes in the new district, two of which don’t have executive committees. Only the Lafayette Parish Republican Executive Committee has failed to make an endorsement in the race.

But the campaign manager for Boustany, the four-term Lafayette Republican, dismisses the endorsements as unreflective of wider GOP support enjoyed by Boustany: “Jeff Landry is now trying to strong-arm select individuals in these parishes to endorse him and trying to sell it as the Republican Party is endorsing him, which I think is just wrong,” John Porter tells the American Press. “To say that they speak for a broader group of people, or even a broader group of Republicans is far-fetched to say the least.”
