The Queen gets a crown

Gutted by fire in April 2010, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church celebrated a symbolic rebirth on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 as dozens of parishioners turned out on a clear morning for a steeple raising. Fr. Hampton Davis, pastor, read from the Book of Blessings, parishioners prayed and the crowd and the new steeple were anointed with holy water before the structure was hoisted into position.

For the last two and half years Queen of Peace parishioners have celebrated Mass in the gymnasium at Truman Montessori School, an LPSS facility that lacks air conditioning. But all along they were raising funds to not only restore the 45-year-old church but to make it better than ever, including adding a steeple and cross, which the relatively low-income parish in north Lafayette never had the funds to do.

Nice video! Your videographer really captured the indomitable spirit of Father Hampton Davis and his great congregation. Seeing a Priest wearing a hardhat was just priceless…
