Port Barre woman booked on Medicaid fraud charges

PORT BARRE, La. (AP) — A Port Barre woman faces charges she defrauded the state's Medicaid program.

Louisiana Attorney General James "Buddy" Caldwell's office says 44-year-old Hilda Demouchet was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail on Tuesday.

Demouchet, a personal care attendant, is accused of submitting false timesheets to her employer. She allegedly claimed she provided services to a Medicaid patient when that person actually was out of the state.

She faces three counts of Medicaid fraud. Each is punishable by up to five years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
