Tulane hires ex-US Attorney Jim Letten

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Tulane University Law School has hired former U.S. Attorney Jim Letten, who resigned in December after two of his top deputies became embroiled in a scandal over anonymous posts on a newspaper's website.

Tulane said Thursday that Letten will join the law school as an assistant dean for "experiential learning," a newly created position. The school says Letten will coordinate its existing skills programs and lead a push to create new learning opportunities for students.

Letten is expected to start the new job later this month.

Letten stepped down after two veteran prosecutors in his New Orleans-based office admitted anonymously posting criticism of judges and comments about cases on nola.com, the Times-Picayune's companion website. His departure ended his tenure as the nation's longest-serving U.S. attorney.
