BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU is expected to soon have a new system president and chancellor of its flagship campus.

The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote Wednesday to hire F. King Alexander, currently a higher education official in California and the lone finalist for the LSU job. Board chairman Hank Danos has said he expects approval of Alexander's hiring.

The search process has been lambasted by the Faculty Senate as too secretive, and faculty leaders have questioned whether Alexander has the background to lead a research-based university system.

Alexander has been president of California State University Long Beach since 2006.

Before that, he was president of Murray State University in Kentucky. He's also held positions at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana; University of Wisconsin, Madison; and University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
