News that the city of Youngsville will ask voters to pass a 4 cent hotel/motel tax is only superficially silly. The city currently has no hotels or motels to tax, but with a $16 million recreation complex in the works and the prospect of hosting youth sporting events that attract families from across the region, the city of 9,000 believes lodging operators will be drawn to Youngsville in due time.

MAY_100428_9990Mayor Wilson Viator tells the Associated Press that right now the prospect is “wishful thinking,” but according to the AP account, consultants have told city leaders that Youngsville could attract up to 1 million visitors annually.
