While the Lafayette Parish Courthouse is being renovated, the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s offices will relocate temporarily to the downtown Whitney Building Sept. 6-8 and begin operating out of the 911 Lee Ave. complex Sept. 9.

sixth and seventh floors.
The temporary move, which Lafayette Consolidated Government officials say is expected to last up to two years, will allow contractors to complete renovations and repairs on the sixth and seventh floors of the courthouse. The seventh floor has been vacant since 1985, when the current jail was completed.
Officials say the courthouse elevator project that began earlier this summer remains on schedule for September completion and note that the jury pool has been moved to the third floor.
The public should continue to expect delays in conducting business at the courthouse during the renovation.
LCG says it has completed several renovations to the nearly 50-year-old building over the last several years, including new air conditioners and chillers, and replacement of the fire alarm and roof.
The dual-floor renovation project, a $1.7 million job, was awarded to Bulliard Construction of St. Martinville, according to Kay Richard, an engineering aide specialist with the Lafayette Public Works Department who is serving as project coordinator.
Richard says the renovation project is part of a cooperative endeavor agreement LCG has with the Louisiana Office of Facility Planning & Control. The state is paying 60 percent of the cost, with LCG kicking in the balance.
Construction will start on Sept. 16, she says.
