Purse snatching goes awry
Here’s a story from KATC TV3 about an attempted purse snatching that didn’t go as planned.

Vincent Campell, according to the report, went after a woman’s purse recently while she was sitting in her car, which was parked on the 200 block of West Milton Avenue. Campbell allegedly opened the victim’s car door, reached in and grabbed her purse from the floorboard. To his surprise, the victim whipped out a handgun and demanded he drop the purse.

Campbell was arrested by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and is being held on a $10,000 bond for attempted purse snatching.

Reward jumps to $15k in whooping crane shootings
The reward for information leading to a conviction in the recent shooting of two endangered whooping cranes has jumped from $1,000 to $15,000, according to this report by the Associated Press.

The story made headlines last week after two whooping cranes were found shot near Roanoke in Jefferson Davis Parish. Another $15,000 reward was offered earlier this year for the killing of a whooping crane found along the banks of the Red River, but that case, according to Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries officials still remains unsolved.

In all, there have been five whooping crane shootings since the state agency kicked off a reintroduction program in 2011, despite efforts to educate the public on the species’ endangered status.

Last week’s shooting resulted in the death of a female whooping crane, while the male survived and is recovering from a recent surgery.
