A side-by-side comparison of Adams and Bastian bays from the same perspective (see the Mississippi River upper right in each image) — the one on the left from several years ago; the other recent — shows how much the Louisiana coast has given way from marshland to open water.  

The Louisiana coastline is vanishing faster than mappers can keep track, according to a disturbing article at TheWire.com. As a result, 30 areas along southeast Louisiana’s coast — places like Scofield Bay, Bay Jacquin and English Bay — have been officially retired from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Coast Survey map.
