Maness (and the Constitution)

U.S. Senate candidate Rob Maness, a retired Air Force colonel the self-fashioned “conservative candidate and non-politician” who hopes to unseat Sen. Mary Landrieu this fall knows he’ll have to get through U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy to do it. So it was little surprise that Maness, on the heels of being endorse by Sarah Palin, is attempting to capitalize on House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s stunning defeat last night in what most presumed would be an easy re-election victory in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District.

Cantor fell to a Tea Party candidate who hit him hard over his willingness to entertain immigration reform and just generally being an out-of-touch establishment Republican. In the wake of Cantor’s ouster, Maness sent an email Wednesday to supporters and media linking Cantor and Cassidy. Cantor ain’t no Willie Horton, but Tuesday’s election results must surely be unsettling in Camp Cassidy.
