Bossier Parish getting "Apocalypto"

According at an article in the Shreveport Times, the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office is “launching a program called "Operation Exodus," a policing plan for an end-of-the-world scenario involving a mostly white group of ex-police volunteers and a .50-caliber machine gun, inspired in part from the Book of Exodus in the Bible.”

It’s obvious that with a shaky U.S. economy, profound disenchantment with both the major political parties, and deep suspicions over anything connected to Wall Street, there are a lot of nervous people out there. Fears of Malthusian scenarios — bubbling beneath the surface of our collective consciousness — where cities are faced with food shortages and subsequent rioting, are not as far out as one might think. At least not at the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department.

The scary part is that these are the very same idiots who were given guns and allowed to be policemen.

This is stupid. And reason enough to cost some police leaders their jobs, in my opinion.

Well, now that I've read the original article, I feel that The Ind misrepresented the facts: Indeed, when asked by the media if this was some sort of end-of-the-world task force, the Sheriff distanced himself from the suggestion. Rather, this seems to be a group preparing for some sort of major disaster, not the Apocalypse. In short, the original article is not as bizarre as The Ind makes it seem, and shame on The Ind for making it seem so.
