Community dialogues continue over school system master plan

The Community Coalition for Lafayette Parish Public Schools continues its community dialogue sessions for the Facilities Master Plan recently prepared for the school system by CSRS, Inc. The coalition will be conducting five public meetings, one for every high school feeder zone, beginning tomorrow night. The meetings are designed to garner public input on the different options presented in the master plan. CSRS has presented four paths for addressing the school system's deteriorating facilities, ranging from an all-renovations approach to one that would replace seven schools, including Lafayette and Northside high schools. More on the plans can be found at http://lpss.csrsonline.com.

The results of all of the community dialogues will be presented to the public in April, about a month before CSRS is scheduled to deliver a final plan to the school board. Here's the schedule:

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 - 6 - 8 PM - Acadiana High School

Lafayette and its silly "master plans"! I'm skeptical of them. Just an excuse for business-types to use words like "outcomes" (horrible grammar -- never use "outcomes" like business people do!) and "paradigms".

Here's my contribution to the dialogue: DO WHAT YOU CAN WITH WHAT YOU HAVE !!! Do NOT come to me for more sales tax or property tax! The "Master Plan" should include paying for it as you go along, just in case there is a down turn in collections!

I'll be more than happy to offer help to schools in the way of a physical presence, but I'll fight tooth-and-nail against more taxation. THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THE LAF. PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM COLLECTS VIA TAXES IS STAGGERING !!! The fact they are negligent in keeping up the schools is NOT SOMETHING I'M WILLING TO PAY MORE MONEY FOR. Period.
