Nearly 300 people — musicians, artists, admirers, friends and family — attended a memorial service Sunday afternoon to celebrate the life of photographer Kent Hutslar, who died March 27 from complications of pneumonia.

kent_memorialThe service included presentations of personal thoughts on Hutslar from friends and family, as well as stirring musical performances including an a cappella rendition of “People Get Ready” by Terrence Simien (pictured; photo by Robin May), a solo saxophone tribute by Dickie Landry, and a duet of “Will the Circle be Unbroken” by Suzy Fleniken and Walter Jr.

Hutslar was 59 years old.

Friends and admirers of the artist are working with downtown galleries to coordinate a tie-in to the June ArtWalk during which Hutslar’s work will be on display and for sale throughout downtown.
