Update: Hardy defends drug offender ID bill on Fox

Rep. Rickey Hardy, D-Lafayette, was up early Tuesday to appear via satellite on the Fox News Channel morning show “Fox & Friends” in defense of House Bill 139, his legislation that would require the driver’s licenses of second-offense felony drug convicts to bear an orange indicator identifying them as such.

“Elderly and senior citizens cannot enjoy their golden years in their community because of drug activity, illegal drug activity that’s taking place,” Hardy said of the bill. “I live in the real world; I live in the ’hood. I don’t live in a gated community. I see that every day. What’s embarrassing when you see folks that have crack addiction, heebie-jeebies, just walking around the street ... We have to do something to eradicate that type of behavior.”

A New Orleans medical doctor who treats drug addicts appeared opposite Hardy on the program and said of HB 139, “The law itself seems to be prejudicial and discriminatory and it seems to serve no useful purpose.”

Hardy’s bill is currently before the House Criminal Justice Committee.

Goodness.....I can't imagine Ricky speaking to a nationwide audience.....I hope EVERYONE is sleeping!

Rickey has some real issues, he continues to make a mockery of his office on a weekly basis. As a member of his district it is quite embarrassing for our representative to continually make an A** of himself. But I wouldn't expect anything less from a PROGRAMMED POLITICIAN.

Actually, Hardy, though appearing somewhat nervous, got his message across. His bill only affects two time felony convicted drug dealers. The "Drug Offender" stamp is only on their license for eight years. Read the bill. I did. It is not a catch all. It is a deterrent. It is another obstacle for the drug dealer to deal with should he choose to continue his illicit trade. As for the statement by queenbee, my dear, there are obviously a number of things in this life you can't imagine. Hardy, speaking to a nationwide audience, is but one of them.

Nationwide audience "Hee-bee-gee-bees" aside---Hardy's illiteracy came through loud and clear on the interview this morning.

Camera nerves are not illiteracy. Dr. Roy is a seasoned psychiatrist who runs a drug rehab clinic. Naturally, he was calm and collected. He is a psychiatrist with a vested interest. Hardy is a working class man who is not a pseudo educated elitist as Scank would have us think. Hardy soundly beat a field of five candidates that included a seemingly racist pseudo doctor, a pseudo colonel, as well as a so-called member of the bar. He works for the people, he is honest to a fault, and he has done more for District 44 in two years than Wilfred Pierre did in more than 25 years as a city councilman and a state representative. When you consider the alternative, Hardy was the only choice for the voters to make. And quite a good choice at that.

Dear queenbee, since you are unable to ascertain my point from that which is written, it is obvious that, not only have you limited imagination, but you have a limited comprehension level as well. My point is, yes, he was nervous, he is not illiterate, he did get his point across, and he works for the people.

What I like most about Rickey Hardy is is absolute disregard for anyone's opinion on what issues he's ready to address!!! I think anyone who considers his down-to-Earth, unpretentious manner of communicating refreshing! I've listen to so many egotistical ego-maniacs, enunciating crisply their dribble of nothing, too afraid to ripple the boat, much less rock it, I have to take Pepto to settle the sickness in my stomach. Hardy's ideas have merit and he has the courage to address them. I've seen WAY too many castrated law makers, so politically timid, I think its a great change to witness one who still has his.

TheProblemIs morons like you that voted him into office. At least any of the other candidates you mentioned can form a complete sentence. Rickey continues to make a fool of himself, the sad thing about it is that he is serious as hell. His idiotic proposals and personal grudge with the school board is beyond belief. Seems like the politician, colonel, or lawyer could have done a better job. I really believe a 5 year old could do a better job.

beheard is obviously devoid of any level of desire for honest elected officials. Give me a man with heart and integrity who is honest. That kind of man doesn't need to form a complete sentence. His actions speak much louder than any of the b.s. dialog that you long for from hollow elected officials.

I never once questioned if Rickey was honest or not. I have questioned his ability and knowledge. And every time he opens his mouth, I get the answer. I don't expect a genius in public office, but give me someone who cares about what really matters and can form an opinion about it. Not a person who is being controlled by the powers that GOT HIM ELECTED.

Anyone who knows Hardy knows that he is not controlled by anyone or anything. He is Rickey Hardy. So he is not the most articulate speaker in public office. By the way, I did vote for him as did many others. His closest rival, the racist seeming pseudo doctor, lost to Hardy by almost 1,000 votes. Hardy is not racist and does not scare people. He is honest. He helps people and he works for the people. That is why 80% of the white vote went for Hardy in District 44. Get your priorities in order. Someone who is honest, who works for all the people, and does not think himself better, is far more desirable than an articulate talking head. And you call me a moron for voting for an honest man? Diogenes search ends with Rickey Hardy.

TheProblemIs, maybe you are the puppet master. You are in denial about Ricky being controlled because he probably has Your interest in mind. Let me say this, Mr. Hardy has proposed a few bills that make sense and that I support. I just feel the man seeks every opportunity to get in front of a camera and speak foolishly. You can only express another's ideas so far, at some point you have to HAVE YOUR OWN IDEAS.

Everyone is talking about how Mr. Hardy speaks. If any of you smart floks pay attention what has happened in this state in country you realize the following:
1. It is the folks who speak the queens english who got us in the mess we are in now!

2. They like to use big ass words so no one understands what they are saying (only their folks who profit do)

3. I could care less what ya'll think anyway!

4. There are more of us, than ya'll!!

5. Speaking well does not mean you are smarter. It just means you speak well. DUH!!

Can't say I speak the Queen's English, or the King's for that matter, I just speak American, don't know who the "more of us, than y'all" are.

I wish the bill included an emblem which prohibited people with 2 or more DWI's from buying alcohol. Those of us with a relative who can't stop drinking would love to know we are less likely to get a call in the middle of the night.

Beheard, you accuse me of being in denial that Hardy is controlled. It is apparent that you choose to believe he is controlled regardless of any logic or intelligent reasoning that is put forth to you. You started off with Hardy's lack of articulation. When that asinine argument was blunted, you switched to him being controlled and resorted to name calling. Even though that idiotic point was blunted as well, your smallminded bigotry will not allow you to admit that you are wrong. You, Beheard, are worse than a moron. Small, close minded bigots are frightening.

In response to the previous post, the argument about Hardy's lack of articulation will never be blunted because he will continue to sound off and make a fool of himself. I will not beat a dead horse, I'm sure Mr. Hardy will make a SIMPLE statement in the next few days that validates my point. It happens weekly. But, at least we know where theProblemis. I'm for from a bigot, I just prefer my Representative spent more time promoting legislation that helps ALL constituents. The GRANDSTANDING is getting old.

I think we can agree, Hardy's not a polished speaker. But you know what, who really cares. He's honest and accessible. These are the only two characteristics I look for in an elected official. Evidently, the voters in his district like him, or he wouldn't be where he is.

I congratulate Mr. Hardy. He is one man who cares for his greater community, unlike most politicians who only care for their own. What Mr. Hardy has said and done in Lafayette and now continues his good work in Baton Rouge (for example the GPA requirements for athletes) needs our support. Thank you, Mr. Hardy!

The GPA issue was on the verge of being voted on by the state athletic board. I commend Hardy for his stance, but raising the GPA and standards was set to happen anyway.

Lets talk about our politicians. Some speak well, some do not speak well. I actually trust NONE of them. Because in the real world they only want to get re-elected and maintain their power base. But in the country will live in the subsitute for ROYALTY seems to be the politicians. That is why all the yahoo's want to be one or want to be associated with one. So we are the ultimate losers even if they speak well or not!!
