Ex-priest Gilbert Gauthe released from jail

Gilbert Gauthe, the former Acadiana priest who shook the Catholic Church with its first modern sex abuse scandal, is back out of prison. The Daily World reports that the 64 year-old Gauthe was released last week from Galveston County jail after serving two years for violating the Texas sex offender registration law.

Gauthe previously served a 10 year sentence in Louisiana prison, after pleading guilty in 1985 to 11 counts of aggravated crime and against nature and other crimes. Gauthe was a priest in Henry, in Vermilion Parish and in New Iberia between 1974 and 1983, during which time he was accused of molesting hundreds of children. He was arrested in Texas in 1996 -- the year after he got out of prison -- and accused of fondling a 3-year-old boy. He received probation after pleading guilty in 1997 to injury to a child.

" The Catholic Church is a damnned religion, for the filty deeds their priests have committed upon innocent children, and for the cover-up of the evil acts, by the hierachy of the Catholic Church......... All for the greed intent of keeping the money they have scammed from their members, and all in the name of a God, who has allowed them free rein to abuse their members.
It takes an ignorant weak-minded person to believe that any religion has the interest of their well-being as a priority....
" Organized Religion is but a means the government uses to manage the masses," this is why all religions are tax-exempt, and allowed to profit for the effect they have on members, in keeping them from breaking mans laws by preaching that God wants them to all to abide by mans law !
I cannot understand why this priest! " Especially this priest, has not been fitted with a pair of custom-made concrete shoes, and thrown in a deep bayou !!!!!!!!!!!!

I think any decent person who knows where he is going to live (next door to those children) should go and exterminate him.
I know of plenty of people that are terminal who could step up to the plate, wish I was cause I'd put him straight under

Priests that are pedophiles are the ultimate scum. They commit the ultimate betrayal by using their status to perform unspeakable acts on our children. Catholic apologists can read to you a litany of steps they have taken recently to prevent these criminal acts, but ultimately the problems ontinue. Michael Jackson had power, fame, and Neverland Ranch to create his deception. Priests have the Vatican to serve this same purpose. Do you really believe that a lay person with Gauthe's past would be a free man today. I am not anti Catholic, nor am i an atheist. Rather, my views are based on seeing first hand how these betrayals of faith affect the victims. Gauthe will pay for his actions, i just pray this occurs sooner rather than later.

Gauthe will never pay for his evil deeds.
Every mind washed, small-minded, catholic will pay for his evil deeds........ through their asinine tithing to the church.....
The catholic church is the richest organization in the world, with the most darkest criminal past, with richest gained by the rape and pillage of innocents through the ages, from the time of its inception, it is known to be the most darkest, most cruelest,
most GODLESS, organization ever to exist, all the while pretending to be "MANS SALAVATION, the catholic is a complete farce, with the most delicately arranged, christianly facade, yet more evil, than any known "Government In The World........
"Barring none, the Nazi's, or any Communist tyrannical, government
ever to exist...more evil than " PAPA DOC DUVALLIER, THE ENFAMOUS
BUTCHER !

Damn, some of you people are out of your minds.

I am completely disgusted by the actions of this man and other men who have abused children. They should be punished.

But this grand proclamaitons against the Church. Please. The Catholic Church has done so much good.

Could it have handled these situations better? Yes. Is it different then any other religion or lay institution? No.

If you think other religions or lay institutions don't have scandals hidden in their closets you are a fool.

Revisiting this unfortunate thread in light of the Penn State/Sandusky scandal.

This is Exhibit A as to why institutional protection of a predator pedophile equates to complicity in enabling these kinds of actions.

The Catholic Diocese of Lafayette, much like Joe Paterno, has a long record of doing good things. And, again much like Joe Paterno (et al), when the time to be brave and do the right thing presented itself amidst circumstances which could have cast the institution in a negative light, each did nothing to protect the innocent victims, and instead protected the "integrity" of their institutions and, further, enabled the perpetrators of such unspeakable acts to continue (in some cases under the veil of institutional protection).

I'm not going to be "all Catholics are bad" guy, but goddamn, when your love for this institution, one with this kind of record, far exceeds your convictions of what is right and wrong, then perhaps you've crossed over into "cult member" status.

Free your minds, think for yourselves, and weigh the consequences of your guilt of "bucking the institution" vs. "doing the right thing in the eyes of God". And quit supporting institutions which protect, enable, or otherwise empower predator pedophiles.
