The delusional world of Tony Hayward

The oil spill is bad enough. What we don’t need on top of the catastrophic destruction of Louisiana’s estuaries and the marine life it harbors is the boneheaded remarks of BP chief executive Tony Hayward. Frankly, I don’t know why he hasn’t been muzzled by now by the company’s PR department. Every time he speaks to the press he reveals how little he really understands or cares about the people of Louisiana. It’s all about protecting BP’s image and bottom line.

Last week nine cleanup workers were sickened while out in the gulf and had to be airlifted to hospitals in New Orleans. The workers suspect the fumes from the oil and dispersant made them ill. Over the weekend, Hayward had this to say about what made the men sick:
“I’m sure they were genuinely ill, but whether it was anything to do with dispersants and oil, whether it was food poisoning or some other reason for them being ill,” Hayward told the Times-Picayune. “You know, food poisoning is clearly a big issue when you have a concentration of this number of people in temporary camps, temporary accommodation. It’s something we have to be very, very mindful of. It’s one of the big issues of keeping the army operating. You know, armies march on their stomachs.”
Sunday night, Hayward was interviewed on CNN. While apologizing for spill, he managed to downgrade the disaster to a “disruption” of people’s lives. Including his own.
“We’re sorry for the massive disruption it’s caused their lives. There’s no one who wants this over more than I do. I would like my life back.” Hayward told CNN that BP is doing “everything we can to contain the oil offshore,” but, “as far as I’m concerned, a cup of oil on the beach is a failure.”
He also seems to be in denial that the dispersant being sprayed by BP is causing undersea plumes of oil, even as teams of scientists are tracking what they say are two huge underwater plumes.
“The oil is on the surface. There aren’t any plumes.” Hayward told The Associated Press.

Hayward is a total incompetent, the BP company man (Vidrine?) is incompetent, and the houston management team that was overseeing the drilling operation is also completely clueless. MMS is also totally useless. Everyone of these people should return the last 6-8 months of salary that they've received, because they clearly have not earned it.

However, Hayward is right about the illnesses. food poisoning, bacteria/virus caused illnesses, mosquito borne illnesses, heat exhaustion, plain sea sickness are all very likely causes of illness in the marshes and offshore at this time of year. Let's not immediately assume that it's oil and dispersants making people sick. Let's not let media driven speculation make things worse than they already are.

Why is it that no-one seems to understand that the Disperant chemical BP is using, adheres to the hydrocarbons, and this causes the oil to partially lose its buoyancy, "therefore the plumes of oil being carried off by the current ", the hydrocarbon which does not completely lose its buoyancy, submerges to the ocean bed.......
I recall a marine scientist announcing that a minute amount of Hydrogen Sulfide was detected near Venice, if the hydrocarbons escaping from the blowout contain Hydrogen Sulfide, this may be what is the cause for the men getting ill..

Whether Tony Hayward gets his "life back" is not the concern of the American people or the people of the Gulf who are directly effected every day of every hour. He needs to put a PR person in charge who knows what they are doing.

"" Correction mah brother, Shotgun ! The hydrocarbon which lose's its buoyancy completely settles to the ocean bed.
But, you are on the scent, and i hope its not H2S escaping, if so, we are going to see more sealife poisoned than ever anticipated.
ITS ODD NO-ONE HAS CLARIFIED/OR NEGATED, WHETHER THE COMPOSITION OF THE HYDROCARBON BLOWING OUT OF THE WELL-HEAD CONTAINS H2S, OR WHETHER THE OIL/GAS IS COMPLETELY SWEET.
