EatLafayette kicks off

A kickoff celebration was held during Thursday’s Business After Hours at the Petroleum Club for the sixth annual EatLafayette campaign, which promotes dining at locally owned eateries. The campaign starts Monday and runs through Aug. 15.

More than 50 restaurants are participating this year, offering a variety of cuisines and specials.

“It’s not about competition between local restaurants,” says Charlie Goodson, owner of Charley G’s Seafood Grill and one of the originators of the EatLafayette campaign. “It’s about local people experiencing local flavors and having a marvelous time.”

The 2010 campaign includes a new television commercial that features several familiar faces from the Acadiana area expressing why they like eating locally. One of those is Gerald Breaux, executive director of the Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission. Breaux says the campaign is also being promoted in radio, print and social and digital media.

Visit the official EatLafayette website, www.eatlafayette.com, to browse participating restaurants either by name or by food type. The website also includes information about the Caribbean Cruise Giveaway, a promotion offered in past years encouraging diners to visit participating restaurants in order to win a free four-day cruise provided by Travel Machine.
