Lafayette Consolidated Government

The City-Parish Council will vote Tuesday on an ordinance for final adoption that would declare the North St. Antoine Street extension project a public necessity, clearing the way for acquiring rights of way along the projected route through expropriation if necessary. When completed the extension will provide a much-needed north-south transit in north Lafayette, connecting Congress Street near downtown to West Pont Des Mouton Road. The ordinance was adopted unanimously in introduction on July 6.

In other business, the council will also vote on an ordinance for final adoption authorizing the Durel administration to enter into negotiations to obtain reimbursements for payments Lafayette Consolidated Government makes into the health accounts for LCG employees who retire early. The reimbursements would come from the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program, part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as federal health care reform. Congress appropriated $5 billion for such reimbursements through the ERRP in an effort to make health benefits more affordable for plan participants and employer-sponsors. The ordinance also cleared the council unanimously as an introductory item on July 6.
