CPC to get JoDu budget Thursday

The Lafayette City-Parish Council will receive City-Parish President Joey Durel’s proposed budget for the 2010-2011 fiscal year during a meeting Thursday evening in the council auditorium.

With sales tax collections down almost 3 percent from a year ago, the budget is expected to be leaner than the current budget of roughly $587 million. And with economic uncertainly looming as a result of the deepwater drilling moratorium, discretionary expenditures like the proposed new model for funding non-governmental arts and social service agencies — a model that increases consolidated government’s financial commitment — could once again become points of contention as the council moves through the nearly two-month process of finalizing the budget.
