Council budget hearings winding down

The Lafayette City-Parish Council will look into the operations of the consolidated government’s Public Works Department and Capitol Improvements beginning at 4 p.m. today in the council auditorium. It is the penultimate hearing in which councilmen will comb through the budget; on Wednesday the panel will look at Finance and Management as well as the budgets for their own office and those of City-Parish President Joey Durel and Chief Administrative Officer Dee Stanley, also beginning at 4 p.m.

On Thurday the public will have an opportunity to offer its input on Durel’s $611 million proposed budget beginning at 5:30 p.m. A wrap-up session is scheduled for 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 8 and a second, if necessary, for the next day. A special meeting is set for Thursday, Sept. 30 for final adoption of the budget.
