WWL: Vitter calls challenger's ad 'defamatory'

Sen. David Vitter is threatening a lawsuit if Louisiana radio stations continue to air a commercial by Chet Traylor, his main opponent in the Republican primary. WWL reports that Vitter's attorneys sent letters to stations calling the ads "false, misleading and defamatory."

Broadcasters are bound by law not to discriminate against giving air time to any political candidates. The accusations come with less than a week to go in the race for the Republican nomination. The primary election is Aug. 28.

From WWL:

Vitter's attorneys specifically take issue with this allegation in the commercial:  "Vitter's Senate Aide for Women Affairs holds his girlfriend hostage while slashing her face with a knife."

James M. Garner, one of Vitter's attorneys in the matter, wrote that the aide in question, Brent Furer, was not convicted of assault and those charges were dismissed. In his letter, Garner added, “It was not even alleged by the victim in the police report that Mr. Furer ‘slashed her face with a knife,'” as the commercial alleged.

A public official has a snowball's chance in hell of prevailing in a defamation lawsuit. You would think a lawyer would know this. Plus, the statement is true.

People must remember who we're talking about here. Vitter is a man who professed the virtues of family values and then frequents prostitutes.

It is important to note that when President Clinton was having Monica Lewenski service him in the white house, Vitter and his wife were whaling on Bill for his lack of family values. In fact, Vitters wife said that "if he (Clinton) had done that to (Me, I would cut his thing off."

Now, I won't say anymore about Mrs. Vitter except to point out the hypocracy in that family.

Back to (s)enator David Vitter.

We learn alot about Vitter from his madame, who killed herself before testimony began, that senator Vitter prefers having sex with his prostitutes with his shoes on. We also learn that Vitter had whores both in DC and Baton Rouge.

Therefore, be ware, when Vitter opens his mouth to try an persuade you that he is an upstanding family values guy, ask him-senator Vitter, have you had sex with your whore today?

The radio stations will not be held liable in regards to this lawsuit (defamation) due to the fact that once the legally qualified federal candidate's commerical is deemed a "use", this procludes the broadcaster from liability because there is a "no-censorship" provison included. Thus, stations cannot alter or remove a spot or program containing a candidate's use for any reason. All liability would then fall on the candiates campiagn committee and not the radio stations.

You would think that a U.S. Senator would know these things.

This is a clear case of Vitter trying to intimidate the station owners and station managers as yesidoknow is right, they have a very slim chance of winning this - especially with this ad.

I agree with ADS on the legal question. Moreover, we know that senator Vitter is an inheritenly double crossing dubios personality. With him, the law and the constitution does not apply.

For example, when asked if he broke any laws by paying for prostitutes, his answer was an uneqivocal no. When asked if he betrayed his family values platform,-his answer was -no. When asked about the phone call to his prostitute while he was in session on the senate floor (responsible media compared the call to the whore's phone with the vote Vitter cast that day thus placing him on the senate floor)Mr. Vitter apologized. He did not deny it, he apologized.

David Vitter does not need to be representing Louisiana.

senator David Vitter is the skunk at the garden party.

Uhhhhh.....I hear what you're all saying....I don't like Vitter either....but life is about choices. If you won't vote for Vitter, then who are you gonna vote for? Traylor's scum, too. Accardo's not gonna win because nobody knows who he is. Charlie Melancon's pathetic.

If not Vitter, then who?

Apparently yesidoknow senator Vitter must be a woman hater. I know people like him. People like senator Vitter puts on a family values show on tv and when the lights camera and action goes off air he starts to belittle women.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts he is abusing his wife. His wife can't say anything about the abuse she is enduring because hhe is a powerful senator. Also, remember the madame wound up dead right before she was suppose to testify.

David (Bitter) Vitter does not need to be representing Louisiana.

Thanks for the link yesidoknow.

ragin_cajun. point taken. I've been watching Mr. Melancon on the political stage for quite some time now particularly during that mess with BP. He is an authentic personality and he cares about the people. I have never heard him say anything except that BP must pay for what the've done to Louisiana. Vitter and Landrieu makes all kind of excuses for BP.

Look at Congressman Melancon's voting record. This is a man of the people. This is the kind of person you want representing the state of Louisiana in DC.

"false, misleading and defamatory"
That pretty much sums up David Vitter's life.

Oh, well of course cheating scumbag should be in there too.

Good, we agree. Now here comes the hard part.

We must talk to our friends and neighbors and let them know that casting a vote for Bitter Vitter will do Louisiana more harm than good. Many voters do not know this mans history. We should share with them what we know about bitter vitter and his cut throat companion.

I find it funny that Vitter's objection revolves around the specifics of what caused the wound, and do not attempt to deny that he gave her a wound. "Hey, he didn't stab her in the face! He just smacked her around a little bit and forgot to take off his pinky ring." I think Vitter may be missing the main point of the add here.

To The Independent:

I expect that you will be putting the hard questions to Bitter Bitter Sen David Vitter.

If this man has that much disrepct and hatrate anger and BITTERNESS toward women, The Independent owe it to the community to bring this clowns record before the citizens of Louisiana before they cast their vote. Don't let me down.
