Baton Rouge launches 'low pants, no chance' campaign

East Baton Rouge Parish is taking a different tack than some Acadiana municipalities when it comes to the nagging issue of sagging pants. Baton Rouge's Metro Council is helping launch a "low pants, no chance" awareness campaign that seeks to get local business' and other destinations to require patrons to pull their pants up. The campaign is modeled after the popular "no shoes, no shirt, no service" slogan that many businesses have successfully employed. In Acadiana, the towns of Delcambre and Jeanerette have passed ordinances that allow police to ticket and fine residents sporting low-riding pants; three men were recently sentenced to community service in Jeanerette for violating the saggy pants ordinance. The Baton Rogue council is hopeful its public awareness campaign will have the same effect as a legal prohibition. Watch the WBRZ story below.

Great idea, I hope that Lafayette follows suit.

Government has no right to ask private businesses to be the enforcement point for laws that government finds too difficult to enforce themselves.

In a free society, people can dress as stupid as they want to dress, and the government can't do jack s*!t about it. If you live in a society where government publicly states that they don't like how you DRESS, and government actively uses force of law to persecute you for it, then you do NOT live in a free society--you live in a soft tyrrany at best.

What would your grandfather have said to a cop that wrote him a ticket for wearing the wrong clothes?

We should allocate funds for the pants police. It is important that this heinous crime be stopped before the pants reach the ankles. This police force needs to pull those pants up to form a wedgie. Finally, a law should be put in the Louisiana Constitution.

If you forget to zip your fly, will there be a fine or jail time?
