NYT: Obama lifting drilling moratorium

The New York Times is reporting that the Obama administration will today announce plans to resume deepwater drilling:
The Obama administration on Tuesday plans to announce that it is lifting the moratorium on deep-water oil drilling, after putting in place new rules intended to tighten safety.
President Obama imposed the moratorium after the blowout of a BP well in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20 led to the largest maritime oil spill in American history. But the White House has come under intense pressure from the industry and from regional officials and businesses that have complained about the economic impact.
“The process is coming to its natural end,” Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, told reporters on Tuesday morning. “I believe the process will wrap up very soon.” The Interior Department later sent reporters an e-mail announcing that it would hold a telephone news conference at 1 p.m. to discuss the resumption of deep-water drilling.

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu has been blocking the confirmation of Obama’s nominee to the head the Office of Management and Budget until the moratorium is lifted.

Well this is too little to late. I've already been on unemployment rolls for 7 weeks now. Try an file for unemployment, what a joke. As for BP settling with everyone affected by their negligence, that is a joke too. Just so everyone knows, this is a political ploy by Obama to hold on to power so he can really turn us from a republic who elects it's leaders to a dictatorship or communist defacto country. Wake up Ameri-CAN'S the only thing the Democ-RAT'S have done is dig the hole deeper and want to take over the remaining private sectors of the USA which was founded on Life, Liberty and Individual FREEDOM...

Until all of the Gulf fisherman and all of the businesses affected by the spill are made whole-until scientist confirm that all sea life is back to normal, and green energy is started in ernest- I say keep the thing in effect.

Please remember to vote Landrieu out when her next election rolls around.

The US was not founded on life, liberty and individual freedom, it was founded on slavery and exploitation and greed.

Great news! LOST MY JOB, I feel for you. But just be happy you will get a chance to go back to work soon. I admit it did take Obama a little too long to do this, but it was the oil companies who went in front of Congress looking DUMBFOUNDED and CONFUSED. They had no plan for a disaster of this nature, so while its convenient to blame OUR president, the real blame lies with the BIG OIL COMPANIES.

beheard,

When you are not using your alter ego, you make a lot of sense. Those who work in the oil field industry will make a pretty easy transition over into green energy production.

Lets just remember the gulf and all the problems therein. I don't care what they say, the food in the gulf is not ready to eat.

We need to get off oil boys and girls.

Laf native in CA...the only thing you're right about is Landreau out at her next election...you're in left field with everything else.

WinnDix shows the results of a left wing education.

The Moratorium is still ON in the "New" regulations

If we don't move full speed ahead on green energy, we're resigning our children to a fate equal to slavery.

We must move on to green.

I guess if your neighbor decided to start throwing trash in your backyard but offered to pay you a hunderd bucks a month to dump all he wanted....you'd probably go for it.

It's not called a moratorium now, it is now a slow walk through the permitting process.

If you think that green energy is going to heat your home, cook your food, drive your kids to school, power your factory, grow your crops, you are severely mis-informed.

All the moratorium has done is cripple our home energy production, passing the money to imported oil that has little restriction on waste and abuse.

Phil,

Listen NIMROD, that damm oil they pull out of the earth goes onto the world market and is traded on the stock market by people like limbaugh, hannity, palin and the rest.

Quit watching the fox news models and maybe you can learn something.

Yall tea party clowns don't know what the hell yall talking about. Yall just say chit that don't make sense.

If Louisiana pulled 500 billion barrels of oil from the gulf, all of that, every drop of it, goes on the world stock market for rich people to bid on and raise the price so that they can get as much money from us as possible.

THANKS DICK AND GEORGE!

Still NO ONE gets it. Green energy is a joke, it leaves a larger carbon footprint and cost more to generate than fossel fuels mined from within the earth. LAFAYETTE NATIVE RESIDING IN CA and WinnDIX are plum nuts, oil has been extracted from the Gulf of Mexico, offshore, for 50+ years and nearly everyone in Louisiana is tied to the industry in some direct or indirect way and those of us who make a good living off the backs of big oil really don't give a flip how much they are worth, long as they keep our country rolling.

Do you remember the 1970's? Do you want to relive thoe days of long lines at fuel pumps, high fuel prices and all of the fustration?

I do, every time BIG government slaps another regulation on any industry, ship jobs overseas and allow us to be at mercy of other countries who we depend on to ship whatever product it maybe from.

Mull that over.
