Florsheim leaving LITE

After just more than 15 months on the job, LITE CEO Henry Florsheim is leaving the technology hub for a position in Arkansas. The announcement was made Friday afternoon via a press release from LITE:

Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise (LITE) Chief Executive Officer Henry Florsheim has accepted the position of president/CEO for the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, where he will lead the chamber and direct economic development for Union County, Ark.

“Leaving Lafayette is bittersweet, and I’ll always cherish my time here,” Florsheim said. “However, the opportunity to manage a chamber of commerce and conduct traditional economic development activities was too good to pass up. El Dorado is a very progressive town with good schools, strong industry leaders, an active arts community and an amazing historic district. In addition, my wife and I will be much closer to both of our families, including my 11-year-old daughter who lives in Monroe. It’s the right move for our family,” Florsheim concluded.

President and CEO of Lafayette Economic Development Authority Gregg Gothreaux said, “Having worked alongside Henry for 10 years, I know he’ll be successful. As a friend, I’m happy for him. As president [and] CEO of LEDA, I know that Lafayette is losing a leader.”

“I appreciate Henry’s service to LITE, and am sad to see him go,” said LITE Commission Chair Bobby Veazey. “Henry was an asset to LITE and he will be missed.”

LITE is a fail economic experiment that is a negitive drain on tax payers. It assumes the flawed policy that subsidy of business equal economic success. This is not the fault of Henery, he just got the job. While I take Henry's motive for leaving at what he says, LITE is costing taxpayers millions. If Henry really believes in LITE, then as his last act he should release its finacial statements. In detail. I challange this paper to request LITE's disclosure of its finances.

LITE is a fail economic experiment created under the delusion that government subsidy of business can create markets that would not otherwise exist. I take Henry’s statement at face value. But if he has any respect for this city he will, as his last act, release the financial statements of LITE to the public. I challenge Henry and this paper to call for the release of those financial statements in detail. Keith Thibodeaux, who was formerly Chief Technology Officer of LITE, is now under investigation by the FBI for his Durel appointed role as LCG Chief Information Officer. Now I have no idea if Keith did anything wrong. Also, the LHA, direct appointments of Durel, are also under investigation by the FBI. Doesn’t it make sense to look open the books to LITE. The board overseeing LITE owns it to this community to make its financial information public. I suggest LITE has lost millions in tax payer money. Far more than the combined amounts suggested in both the LHA and LCG Thibodeaux affairs.

Hmmmmm," El Dorado is a very progressive town with good schools, strong industry leaders, an active arts community, and an amazing historic district...........
Does he not know Lafayette parish school district has moved up from next to the last most improved school district in the state, and now stands as the fourth from the bottom would'nt he want his children to be educated in the most progressively soaring school district in the state.
Hell, we are ahead of 17 of the 89 school districts in our neighboring state of Mississippi.

LITE was an asset to Henry. No way this guy gets this promotion without his experience at LITE. My problem is 15 mos. and you're looking for the step you planned on taking when you accepted the LITE job. That's how I see it. A little longer would have been a decent length of service. 15 mos. isn't. It comes across, to me, as a lack of loyalty and commitment, to the commitment made when the job was taken. 15 mos. is a ridiculously short amount of time, as I see it.

Sad to say but probably the only thing Henry "Shoes" accomplished while he ran Lite was finding another job. But this is what you get when your only qualifications are as follows: Well connected in the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. I remember when he first showed up at a Chamber function. That is how you get ahead in Lafayette!! It's who you know (not qualifications) I would hope the next application and interview process is not a SHAM like the one they used to hire "Shoes" If it is going to be another bogus interview process. (like they do at U.L.L. etc.) Just go ahead and hire the unqualified Chamber backed flunky they want. It will save taxpayer money and time!!

I'd love nothing more than to see the finances of this failure. Nothing about LITE is right, it was backwards from the start.

I'd also like to see this paper write about Lafayette's wasteful trips to Cannes Film Festival and why they don't have a presence at other films like say I don't know maybe the New Orleans Film Festival?

I always find it amazing on this forum how whenever something good happens to someone, ya'll try to run that person down. So let's look at another scenario....is it possible that Henry Florsheim EARNED this new position? That this entity saw what he accomplished at LITE and wanted his talents to help their community??? Many of you spend a great deal of time on this forum flapping your gums and tapping your keyboards making snotty remarks about others in the community. Well while you are doing that, people like Henry Florsheim are actually DOING SOMETHING to help make Lafayette a better place for us and our children. His leaving Lafayette is OUR loss though most of you are too ignorant to realize that. Bonne chance Henry!!

Knowledge is Power --

"is it possible that Henry Florsheim EARNED this new position?" -- We don't know. IS it possible? Why don't you tell us. If you think he earned the position, then tell us what he did that makes him worthy. LITE Comment asked to see the financial statements. That seems reasonable to me. How bout you?

"people like Henry Florsheim are actually DOING SOMETHING to help make Lafayette a better place " -- That sounds AWESOME!!!! I've never heard of H. Florsheim before. Can you tell me 2 or 3 things he's done at the LITE Center to make Lafayette a better place?

Good question Rajun Cajun. If Henry F did so much for the community, in ALL of his 15 mos on the job, I too am wondering why his name & face aren't more familiar? I'm sure he's a nice enuf fella, but Lafayette was just a stepping stone for him & I guess his friends don't like the fact we don't much appreciate that. 15 mos is called "On the job training", and I dont much like that fact, so excuse me if I'm just not that impressed with Henry.

Some of us express views that our employer and/or co-workers would disagree with (they visit TheInd too). Yes, some of us do work in places that have a close-minded, intolerant group think. Anonymity allows us freedom of speech.

But I can understand Cherie Hebert's indignation at verbally attacking the unwitting subject of a news article.

Cherie, the reason people don't put their real name is because of retribution!! You should know about that if you lived in Lafayette for any length of time. People who speak up don't get promoted, raises or have a good standing with the power elite. This town is full of chicken-shits who will do anything to keep their buddies in power!!

Mrs. Cherie Hebert, I will answer you why I use a street name, and that is because I enjoy telling it like many others wish they could tell it.... Without being black balled, or their familys being black balled, and while I personally am rather immune to the threat of being black balled , I have many family members and close associates who may suffer for my comments in the Indy.
Maam, I sincerely hope that answers your question, and I'll add this, if there is anyone who is not deserving of my sarcasm in this Lafayette/Parish City Government and/or their cronys then my name isn't "Cooter Brown.

LITE needs a nationally-connected, experienced visionary at its helm. Henry Florsheim is not that. Henry got the job at LITE because of who he knew - plain and simple. He's a good ol' boy from the LEDA posse of good ol' boys. He has a bachelor's degree from a minor university in Louisiana and has never played a role on the national scene.

Henry was pushed out by his top managers. They informed LITE's Board of Commissioners that "either Henry goes - or we go." That is why Henry "has accepted the position of Chamber President/CEO of El Dorado, Arkanasas." In his top managers' thinking, Mr. Florsheim was not conducting LITE's business in a way that was beneficial to LITE. He simply does not have the skill set.

It is amusing to read the comments left here about how Henry chose to leave Lafayette by his own free will. Read his biography page at LITE's website - "Either way, Henry soon experienced the Lafayette syndrome – that’s when people move to Lafayette, fall in love with the people and the town, gain 20 pounds (or more) and refuse to leave" (http://www.lite3d.com/team_hflorsheim.htm). He's not leaving on his own accord. He's being pushed out by the very people he selected to manage this organization - people who realize that LITE needs and deserves REAL leadership.

If you doubt any of what's been written here, consider this: Population of El Dorado, Arkansas? 21,000.

Lafayette is indebted to Henry Florsheim for his temporary commitment to our community - his roles with Kiwanis and the705 and the Chamber.

But the Henry Florsheim chapter in the Book of LITE deserves to be a very brief one. Bon voyage, Mr. Florsheim. May LITE finally receive the leadership it deserves.

Like a few have said Henry never deserved the job at LITE. This newspaper acutual printed the qualifications of many of the people who originally applied to the LITE position. His skill set was so lacking it was a joke he got the job.

Lafayette just can't understand why highly educated people leave or won't come here. The reason is the best don't get the jobs here. The local and connected people do. Why would you ever come to Lafayette when you know you will never get a fair shake.
