Porsche rolling out ‘Cajun’ SUV

We just didn’t believe the speculation. First there was the highly successful Porsche Cayenne and then rampant rumor in the auto industry that a smaller SUV would follow. Now the German automaker confirms it is indeed planning to slot an SUV below Cayenne, but that’s not the best part.

The working name of the new SUV is "Cajun," likely intended to go up against BMW’s X3 and the Audi Q5. Though it doesn’t mention pricing or when it might be released (some trade pubs are saying 2014), here’s what Porsche had to say about its new SUV Monday:
Under the working name “Cajun,” this efficient and sporty model will further expand the world’s most successful Porsche segment in the SUV sector. In addition to the new Cayenne, which has clearly consolidated its market position as the most successful sporty SUV in the premium segment, the “Cajun” will also have a very positive impact with its typical Porsche features such as light weight, ease of handling and agility. As an attractive entry model in the Porsche world, the “Cajun” will attract new and even younger customers to the premium brand along with the Boxster, the market leader in the segment of two-seater, mid-size sports cars.

Volkswagen acquired a 49.9 percent stake in Porsche in 2009, ending a protracted takeover battle. In 2011, VW is planning the full takeover of Porsche Holding Salzburg, a 20,000-employee juggernaut owned by the Piëch and Porsche families and Europe’s biggest auto distributor, Car and Driver reported in December. Also in 2011, VW and Porsche are planning to fully integrate.

Ok, it's about time Porsche came out with something other than the 911. Heck they've been making that car for over 45 years.

I guess it will have "gumbo" tires as an option
A possible Boudreaux and Thibodeaux Special Edition
The radio will only play Cajun French stations
Paul Prudhomme will be the first celebrity spokesman for the TV campaign
It will come with a bottle of Tabasco in the glove box
They will market it with "Lassez les Bon Temps Rouler" as a theme song showing the new Cajun careening down a swampy road

Maybe they should just call it the MUDBUG
