UL prof, students featured in Discovery series

Engineering the Impossible, new series on Discovery Channel, features a UL civil engineering professor and several of his students as they test engineering methods used to build some of the wonders of the ancient world.

Professor Chris Carroll and his students have prominent roles in the series as they construct models of various structures in Egypt and Rome, testing such things as pulleys for hoisting multi-ton objects and gauging the integrity of pyramid designs. The purpose of the program is to evaluate various means of engineering that may have been used by the ancients. Carroll and his team constructed some of these models in Lafayette and put them to the test.

A preview of Engineering the Impossible will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16 at LITE.
