Gautreaux resigns, Perry to seek seat

State Sen. Nick Gautreaux, D-Abbeville, has resigned his District 26 seat to take a post with the Department of Motor Vehicles. In a press release issued Wednesday morning, Gautreaux’s counterpart in the House, Rep. Jonathan Perry, R-Abbeville, says he plans to run for Gautreaux’s vacated Senate seat.

“As a husband and father of four I care deeply about the future direction of our state,” Perry says in the release. “It is important that we have conservative leadership in the state Senate now more than ever as we face the looming budget crisis.” Perry is an attorney by training and also moonlights as a “Cajun comedian.”

Calls by The Independent to the offices of both Gautreaux and Perry were not returned Wednesday morning.

Getting Jonathan Perry and Simone Champagne elected into the two vacant Senate seats would definitely make that part of the legislature more fiscally conservative.

Senator Gautreaux is not in the retirement system. The Holy Goofus should pray and go to confession for not telling the truth. Fact-- the Legislature does not allow Legislatures after 1995 or so to be in the retirement system. So check your facts before you ruin the good names of people who work hard for the public.

To RCajunrunner: Eeeewwwww! Champagne is in trouble...hear Craig Romero duped her and she fired Rick Patout, her PR consultant since 2007, via e-mail. She will have a hard time coming in 2nd in this race. She has disillusioned many in District 22. Jonathan Perry, maybe, depends on who else qualifies.

Jack Montoucet is going to run against Perry. Montoucet's voting record is layered with big spending, voting for unconstitutional tax increases and protecting taxpayer-funded benefits for public servants who are incarcerated for a felony involving their government job. He then wrote a letter in the Daily Advertiser where he lied to voters about the reason for his bad vote.

Perry will win.

Champagne doesn't need Romero in her corner, at least I would hope not. He's a has-been, term-limited legislator who was part of the problem with Baton Rouge. Voting records, people. If you want a fiscally conservative Senator to represent District 22, Champagne is your candidate. Voting records are public fact. They cannot be disputed.

I am so sorry to learn Senator Gautreaux can be bought after all. I guess they made him an offer he couldn't refuse. He's gunna run the dadgum show over there. That's hard to pass up! And now they've got his replacement all lined up. I am amazed. How the former senator can face the people who trusted him, much less himself in the mirror after what he's done, is beyond me. I guess it really is true, everyone has their price....

JACK MONTOUCET, the Feds gave Jack an alternative ease-out, give it a break or cell time.
Jack has completed his probationary timeout period and he's chompin at the bit to acquire a larger retirement and whatever more he'll rake in from under the table.
Ga, I think the voters are wise to Slick Jack, the partys over Jack get a " REAL JOB !

Excuse me, but in this new job, does anyone know what the former senator will make in the way of salary and perks? AND WILL HE BE ENROLLED IN THE STATE OR FEDERAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM, or any tax payer subsidized retirement system.
