L.A. Times on the ‘Cajun Prince'

The Los Angeles Times traveled to Crowley to get locals’ take on former Gov. Edwin Edwards’ freedom after eight years — and his plans for the future. Officials in Crowley hope to make Edwards the grand marshal of the Rice Festival parade this year, but the 83-year-old governor isn’t sure his probation will allow it.

Edwards was released last week and will serve six months of home confinement with his daughter, Anna, who lives in Denham Springs. He served 16 years as governor of Louisiana and was convicted in 2000 or racketeering, extortion and fraud charges for demanding payoffs from businesses seeking riverboat gaming licenses.

“Edwin Edwards — governor, gambler, ladies’ man, human quote machine and convicted felon — is back among his people,” the Los Angeles Times reported. Read more here.

He's a prince, that he is. As far as Louisiana is concerned, this man is a leader. I remember walking through neighborhoods putting flyers on doors and cars. I remember the excitement in those neighborhoods. People had no trouble whatsoever in determining who they were voting for.

I can't wait for the restrictions to be lifted as I am eager to hear his deep cajun accent.

if you look it this from a purely unprejudiced viewpoint, you can say that this man paid the price, and that is a hell of a great deal more than Clinton and the BUSH-CHENEY REGIME, who stole all they could through behind the scene scams, of the Middle East Countrys, and laundered the money through Cheney's HALLIBURTON COMPANIES. These dogs will never be made to pay for their personal wealth gains and for sacrificing our sons and daughters in their pseudo-nuclear weapon charges against Iraq, which they used to open the door to the Iraq's wealth.

If you strip away every good Edwin did for the state, and exposed every bad Edwin was guilty of, the man would still be, " A Head and Shoulders Man, above Jilting Jindal, who has yet to leave one accomplishement beneficial to the state and the people of Louisiana, while he was not a thief, and not an immoral person, his time spent as govenor was to traverse the country at the state's expense building up a warchest and only God knows for what or who, because there are not as many ignorant people in America as in Louisiana, to think that this neer-do-nothing would be propped up by his party to run for even the gopher position of VP of the US, is an irrespectable injustice, to the intelligence of the American voters.
