Stunner: Melancon now a lobbyist

The headline is sarcastic, of course. Former U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon, swatted down last fall in his bid to unseat incumbent U.S. Sen. David Vitter, has joined a wearingly long line of former members of Congress in sliding through the Beltway revolving door and becoming a lobbyist. According to The Times-Picayune, Melancon has signed on with the International Franchise Association, where he will serve as vice president of government relations and public policy. The IFA represents about 1,200 franchise companies such as fast-food restaurants.

Melancon owned Baskin Robbins ice cream franchises in Louisiana 20 years ago. He tells the T-P that he and his wife, Peachy, will sell their Napoleonville home and live in a Washington, D.C., condominium, but also plan to purchase a house in the Baton Rouge area to be near their children.

Melancon declined to disclose his salary with the IFA, but acknowledged that he’ll be earning more than the $172,000 paid to members of the House of Representatives.

Wasn't Melancon a sugar cane lobbyist before he became a politician? If so, this is just par for the course.

The best lobbyists are recruited from the ranks of federal government office holders, they have the inside track on, " Who can be bought and for what amount those that can be bought ( which is any and all them ) will sell their integrity, Aw hell, whats integrity ? Does it come with paid Health and Dental, HELL NON. Will it cover the cost of the mistress, HELL NON ! Can you hold this against Peet Picard, not I, I'd be afraid of catching something Borax won't wash off.

No you are wrong. This is a country for the PEOPLE by the PEOPLE! NOT for the Corporation by the Corporation.

Businesses have NO BUSINESS being represented or using their filty self serving dollars to influence campaigns!

A Business is NOT a person! A business is a tool of a person or persons, likely very rich person or persons.

When you give businesses the right to donate to campaign funds and influence congress you are giving some person or persons an unfair and unequal amount of representation.

Representation should and is supposed to be equal for all people. As it stands, the RICH can use their money and power to influence congress unfairly. Causing them to create laws and loopholes that benefit the rich and insure the middle class stays in a state of economic slavery.

WHY WHY WHY Can't you people understand this basic fact?
