Boustany and Landry positioning for potential congressional race

As the Louisiana Legislature readies itself for redistricting following the release of the U.S. Census Bureau’s report on demographic and population data, Acadiana’s two congressmen, Charles Boustany and newly elected Jeff Landry, are already squaring off in the national media for what could be a showdown if their districts are consolidated.

The state will lose one of its seven seats; the question is how the remaining six districts will be reconfigured.

Boustany, who represents the 7th Congressional District, which reaches from Cameron to Lafayette, and Landry’s 3rd District, which covers all of the state’s eastern coastal parishes and travels up into Iberia and St. Martin, have been doing some preemptive posturing before the state’s special session begins.

“There is a need for one voice,” Landry tells Politico. “I think there is a tremendous amount of hunger on the coast for it.”

Landry is speaking of the proposal by State Rep. Joe Harrison, who represents three parishes in the 3rd District, to create a single congressional coastal district that would stretch from Mississippi to the Texas border.

Boustany, who represents the inland cities of Lake Charles and Lafayette as well as coastal Cameron and Vermilion, accuses Landry of politicizing the redistricting effort in order to give himself an advantage, should the two face each other in an election.

“He’s trying to gerrymander a district that would give him a potential seat,”  Boustany tells Politico. “It’s part of the game he is trying to play.”

It seems to me that Boustany is a bit scared of Landry, who has already proven himself as a conservative leader with the TEA PARTY base behind him. We also need a strong voice for the coast, the problem is that Boustany has never been a strong advocate and so he doesn't want a district that will come back to haunt him. He's running scared.

Two CLOWNS vying to become the CHIEF CLOWN of the circus that is Louisiana's congressional representative delagation should send chills down the spine of the electorate.

Together with VITTER, JINDAL, LANDRIEU, etal, the state will continue to go straight down hill.

It's just so sad that Louisiana doesn't have great leaders like the Golden State's Pelosi, Boxer, Schwartzenegger, Willie Brown and that peace and love retread, the current Gov Moonbeam.
How can we possibly survive? I just hope the REAL clowns in D.C. don't nationalize California's debt, forcing poor little Louisiana and other heartland states to pick up the tab.

Boustany never served the citizens of Acadiana, he only served his big financial backers, namely the medical industry. Anytime a medical company wants to screw the public, they call Boustany.
I hope Jeff Landry whips his butt...

Wash your mouth with soap OPY. Don't ever mention Schwartzenegger in the same sentence as these great democratic leaders. Now I like Arnold so long as he keeps his hot little hand from under womens skirts. (he admitted as much)

Our Ca debt of 25 billion is the result of years of republican governors, check the record. Guys like Gov Moonbeam and Gov Edwards are some of the only capable leaders left. That lil WHIMP JINDAL AND THAT IMBECIL LANDRIEU they just don't compare.

Jeff will not be able to beat Boustany, doesn't matter if he has the likes of Craig Romero, Simone Champagne and David Vitter backing him. Craig will fight for the job security of his daughter who works in Washington D.C. for Jeff. Simone owes him because Jeff's wife and mother-in-law each gave her $2,500.00. Vitter hates Boustany for not endorsing him so he will support Jeff.

And the beat goes on...

Flumpy, it is people like Landry and Boustany, and Vitter, Mcconnel, Spkr of the house John Boner,Bachman,Bush and Dick etal that mucked up the economy. Take a look at these people faces and you can see that these people are acting only in the interest of the rich.

I know I can count on your vote for Obama in the next election because I know you want to WIN THE FUTURE.

Remember Bill Clinton's "Let's build a bridge to the 21st century. And then he built it and for good measure left a 240 billion surplus and a 1.5 trillion project surplus. REMEMBER THAT.

And then along came that unintellectual dumb boy BUSH AND DICKY and they ruined the country.

See you at the polls FLUMPY.

A choice between bad and worse. Landry strikes me as a male Sarah Palin, full of cliches and empty of substance. Landry rode the 'TEA party/repackaged big government Republican' wave based on a litany of slogans and hateful, divisive rhetoric...with a coullion accent to boot. At least Boustany isn't quite so heavy on that nonsense, although he still appears to be serving his corporate pals.

I agree with your analysis, but with regard to Boustany, I could not disagree more. This CLOWN, Boustany, is exactly like the sarah palin group of NUTBAG CRACKPOTS.

Any time you see a filthy rich legislator get on tv and try to convince you that you don't need healthcare insurance-you know you're dealing with a NUTCASE CRACKPOT NUTBAG.

BOUSTANY IS A RICH CLOWN CRACKPOT NUTBAG!

I bet his wife and kids have health care insurance.

LNRIC, putting the pejoratives in all caps doesn't make them any better.

On health care, I really don't think it's the place of federal government to mandate that we buy health insurance. I won't judge Boustany on that issue alone.

Didn't you notice that Obama and the Dems never even began with a public option? Corporate power grips our government, and your party, your president, is right in the midst of it too.

Tumbleweed, I am against the mandate and I'm in favor of the PUBLIC OPTION.

The reason the public option is not in the current bill is because you had imbecils like palin, hannity, limbaugh, boustany, jindal, landry, vitter,or
eilly and the rest of these republican idiots, including the tea party scaring people with those little cutesy one liner lies like "government run, death panel, tyranny, and the rest of that idiotic bullsh*@.

It is the facts that matter. That's the narrative-the facts. If you can tear yourself away from the glenn beck freak show for the paranoid delusional, maybe you can appreciate the facts.

Remove the insults and there's not much of anything to your posts. I don't listen to any partisan hack, right or left. If you could open your mind past the Media Matters echo chamber, you might learn a thing or two about the bipartisan corporatocracy.

about the bipartisan corporatocracy.

There you go again with those sarah palin cute little quipps like bipartisan corporatocracy. Facts are stubborn things.

Fact#1, the new republican majority in the house has not created any jobs. Remember they campaign on creating jobs-that creating jobs would be the number one issue.

Fact#2": Sarah Palin is an imbecil.
Fact#3: Michele Bachman is a psycho brough'd.
Fact#4 Boustany,Jindal and Vitter has no clue as to how to govern.

These are facts Resident. You can't deny that.

When did Sarah Palin say "bipartisan corporatocracy"? I know Sarah Palin is an imbecile and I'm sure she is just fine with our government being largely controlled by corporate interests.

The only relevant "fact" in this conversation is #1. Firstly, how can a political party controlling one chamber of Congress possibly create jobs within one month? Secondly, job creation depends on much larger factors than which party controls a section of government. Thirdly, I don't care what the Republicans campaigned on because I know that most of them care only for gaining power and pleasing their corporate overlords....just like most Democrats.

Sounds like you already have your talking points lined up from the Democratic establishment. And if you haven't realized that I abhor the Republican establishment too, then there's no point in continuing this conversation.

Listen, NIMROD! Sister Sarah has you fixated on her little catch phrases and her little windshield wiper hand wave, and her Olivall (no offense to poppye)high pitch shreiking voice. Fact is, Obama has cut taxes every year since taking office.

Sure, you hate republicans, but embrace republican tea party. Tea party is no different.

Cast your vote for the Dems next election giving them control of all 3 branches and let those people REPAIR THIS COUNTRY AND PREPARE US FOR WINNING THE FUTURE.

Thanks for your vote NIMROD!

To the Lafayette Native living in California - Is your state doing so well that you can speak that way about Louisiana? I'm glad you did move there, though. You don't belong with us.
