Perry elected delegation chair

perry_smallNewly minted state Sen. Jonathan Perry, who won the District 26 seat in a February special election during the final year of his first term as state representative, has been elected the 2011-2012 chairman of the Acadiana Legislative Delegation. The delegation represents 22 south- and southwest Louisiana parishes, the core of which comprises Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes.

“During such a difficult special session and upcoming regular fiscal session working together helps us to promote and protect our area and improve the conditions and objectives we share,” Perry says in a press release touting the election. “As a group we command more attention and have a stronger voice in deliberations on the House and Senate floor than we would individually. This makes us more effective as legislators and enables us to do a better job for our constituents.”

Also elected to leadership posts in the delegation are Rep. Simone Champagne of Jenearette as vice chair and Rep. Mickey Guillory of Eunice as treasurer.

In his role as chairman, Perry appointed six delegation members to serve with the officers on the executive committee: Sen. Fred Mills of Parks, Sen. Elbert Guillory of Opelousas, Rep. Taylor Barras of New Iberia, Rep. Karen St. Germain of Plaquemine, Rep. Ledricka Johnson Thierry of Opelousas and Rep. Nancy Landry of Lafayette.

The Acadiana Legislative Delegation was formed in 1979 and comprises 32 representatives and 11 senators.

This is very important! Will this organization have sufficient clout to protect Acadiana from the draconian executive cuts [after all, we must feed Republican corporate interests at the expense of the people who actually pay the taxes]! I hope so!

The next ten years are going to be very bleak in this society as a whole; and quite bleak for Acadiana! Time and mathematics will doom us---the foolish policies of the last 40 years [1970-2010 C.E. (Common Era)] are reaping their unintended consequences. Read the Prophet of Doom, Professor Nouriel Roubini's latest book, "Crisis Economics: A Crash Course in the Future of Finance" [If you lack the cash or time to read it, then google his Wikipedia article under "Nouriel Roubini" or read Amazon reviews of his book [they are excellent!]. Also, read Professor Robert B. Reich's "Aftershock: The Next Economy and America's Future". The financialization of a society is how all great society's commit suicide!

Jonathan, Fred, Taylor, Ledricka and Nancy have their work cut out for them! Thanks for this article, Walter.

Nota bene: Learn what Professor Roubini means by a "G-Zero World" !
