Marionneaux mulling run for gov

State Sen. Rob Marionneaux, D-Livonia, tells a West Baton Rouge Parish news website he’s being encouraged to challenge Gov. Bobby Jindal in the October election. According to Plaquemine-based PostSouth.com, Marionneaux says New Orleans-area business people are urging him to run and estimates that any viable candidate will automatically earn 40 percent of the vote. So far, the only Democrat to publicly commit to the race in north Louisiana school teacher Tara Hollis.

Marionneaux is prevented from seeking another term as a state senator due to term limits. Adding fuel to speculation that the governor’s mansion may have been on his mind for some time, Marionneaux led a failed charge in the recent session to repeal Louisiana’s state income tax.

Marrioneaux . . . oh yeah, the guy with the French name who wanted to make English the official language of Louisiana despite the fact that our state constitution forbids such a thing.

The guy who is behind the effort to do away with the state income tax, even as our state's healthcare and educational institutions already have insufficient funding.
