Landry, Martin to square off in new House 96

The race for the newly created state House of Representatives District 96 seat is shaping up.

On Wednesday evening, former St. Martinville Mayor Eric Martin announced his intention to seek the seat during a fundraiser at his home in St. Martinville. Hours later, on Thursday morning at a Breaux Bridge restaurant, former Louisiana State Police Superintendent Terry Landry also announced his candidacy.

District 96 grew out of the redistricting session held by the Legislature this past spring. It is a majority black district that comprises parts of Iberia, Lafayette and St. Martin parishes, including the towns of Breaux Bridge, Cade, Parks and St. Martinville.

Terry Landry is a pretentious person of questionable actions during his tenure as Superintendent of the LA State Police. His behavior was quite outlandish to put it mildly. The LA State Police are still recovering from his time in office. He will not will not win now that he has a credible opponent. Terry Landry's ego was so shattered by his loss to Rickey Hardy that he stopped going to Dwyer's for breakfast and "holding court" because he became the laughing stock of District 44. Now he still hopes that his good 'ol black boy status will propel him into the new minority house seat. It will not for now even more people know him for what he is: a fake, a self server, and a wanna be.

You must not be talking about the same Terry Landry that I know and respect. By the way, he is at Dwyer's every Sunday morning by 7:00 A.M.

I don't know which Terry Landry you know, Mr. Flynn. The Terry Landry almost everyone knows is the one I described. If the Terry Landry you know now goes to Dwyer's on Sunday mornings, that means he'll have to once again take a long break from "holding court" there when he loses this upcoming election like he did the last one he lost. Big. Terry Landry didn't even make it to the run off he lost so big. If you respect him so much, good for you. Then you wonder why the Democrat Party in Lafayette is going to hell with people like you running it.

Is Landry moving around the area so he can run where he thinks he can win? I thought he lived in Ricky Hardy's district? Please someone, update me!

After what Terry Landry did to Trooper Becket Breaux, Landry will most certainly not carry Breaux Bridge or St. Martinville. That is a certainty. Troopers, law enforcement personnel, as well as men and women on the job throughout the region know what a self-centered bigoted person Landry is and, with few exceptions, will not support his candidacy. He is dead in the water.

Mr. Martin had over 300 people at his home on Wednesday for his fundraiser, while Mr. Landry only had 10 attend his function. I was at Mr. Martin's, and was very impressed by both him, and the large, diverse crowd. My prediction is that this will be a one man race.

What did Landry do to Beckett Breaux?

I was in attendance at Mr. Martin's residence the evening of his fundraiser. He did have a very diverse crowd present. Many were concerned with the association of Shane Romero, an attorney from New Iberia & former candidate for state representative who was attending with his father. Mr. Romero's involvement with former parish president Will Langlinais in "secret contracts" and duplicate billing of taxpayers money is an eye-sore to Iberia Parish, this has been the local buzz and only disappointment in Mr. Martin's campaign thus far. Claims are Shane Romero will seek a judgeship in 2012 and request Mr. Martin's support in his future endeavor. Mr. Martin MUST alienate himself from this character to successfully win this election.

I don't know what Terry Landry did to Beckett Breaux, but I was witness to his vicious attacks and personal vendettas he took out on those who disagreed with him or did not bow to him.

A person earns respect, Terry Landry demanded respect. Just because you hold a position it does not make you a leader. And, just because you go to church every Sunday does not make you a Christian.

The people of District 96 deserve an honest, hard working public servant who will look out for their best interest, not a conniving, egotistical, self-centered individual who is only out for what he can get for himself.

I don’t know who “Political Observer” is, but he has not met the real Terry Landry. Mr. Political Observe just disagree or contradict him and you will find yourself in the crosshairs of his revenge.

Voters of District 96 have been forewarned….
