Bertrand enlists heavy hitters

Don_Bertrand_headshotDistrict 7 City-Parish Councilman Don Bertrand will make his re-election bid official on Wednesday with a reception at River Oaks, and the list of co-hosts for the event reads like a who’s-who in Lafayette politics: City-Parish President Joey Durel; state Sen. Mike Michot; state Reps. Page Cortez and Nancy Landry; U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany; U.S. Sen. David Vitter; Lt. Gov. Scott Angelle; along with Hub City civic and business luminaries Robert and LeAnne Daigle; Bill and Ann Fenstermaker; Glenn and Dana Armentor; and Kam and Mazie Movassaghi, to name just a few.

Bertrand, a Republican, currently has no announced opponent in the Oct. 22 primary election. Lafayette business owner Craig Spikes announced his intention to challenge Bertrand last spring, but due to redistricting Spikes is now campaigning against District 7 incumbent Keith Patin.

Always nice to have your heavy hitters loaded with RINOs and Mary Landrieu backers. Don't see too many small government conservatives on that list.

Maybe a real conservative can challenge Joey's council puppet.

"Maybe a real conservative can challenge Joey's council puppet. "

Do you know any? Are there any in Lafayette? Why would they take on Joey's puppet this time around when none stepped forward to run against Joey himself last time around?

Does anyone know a fiscal conservative living in the 7th district that can afford to drop everything and run for city council?! Anyone retired, kids grown, who can make a council meeting every Tuesday night? Anyone?

OMG, this give him absolutely LESS credibility, not more! He sounds as if he's bought and paid for and will "tow the party line"...
Shania Twain had a song called "That Don't Impress Me Much" & that's what this line up reminds me of...
Let me also say, I don't think Mr. Bertrand needs this line up. I liked him much better before I heard of this. I thought him to be his own man and now, that is in serious doubt. I will watch budget hearings to see if I still believe he can be his own man.

If you think little Donny Boy is his own man, after 3 1/2 years of watching him on the council, then your "hope" is helpless.

Donny Bertrand and Ben Berthelot are the two biggest Durel brown-nosers in the state. Donny has been Joey Durel's lapdog since even before his council days.

Don has distinguished himself as one of the most reasonable and well-prepared on the council, from what I have seen. He studies the issues and makes decisions not based on R, D or Tea.

Voting ideology, without conscious, and saying "No", just to appease a radical group, doesn't get things accomplished.

Congratulations on a job well-done Don. Keep up the good work.

I know he does his homework, actually listens to discussions. I think more of him than I do of some of the others who don't do homework and don't listen to discussions. He'd get my vote if I lived in his district.

If you consider supporting every tax and fee increase that has crossed his eyes and voting for his own pay raise as "reasonable", then I supposed you're right.

Also correct in your assessment is that Don Bertrand definitely does not pander to any political party. Instead, he panders only to what Joey Durel wants. Bertrand will do whatever Durel wants, when Durel wants it, no matter his constituents desires. That much is FACT.

Well I have a song that this line-up reminds me of : Kenney Rog`er's " YOU Surround yourself with people who demand so little of you " the only one missing is the "GreenAmbulanceMan, EL MAGIC-BID ZOOSCHLAGG, he of "ALL, I WANT IS AN ADVANTAGE, JOEY, Ah one fo you, Ah one fo ah me

written by Joyce Linde/Coordinator TEA Party of Lafayette , August 09, 2011 - 08:36 pm
The TEA Party of Lafayette opposes Councilman Bertrand on virtually every vote. He voted for: Pay Raise - in 2011 during what we now know and what was clearly predicted to be tough economic times. He voted against the: Citizens right to vote on TIF-Districts...which is a tax imposed upon you by the nine member LCG Council...
The TEA Party of Lafayette is for smaller and less intrusive government, fewer and lower taxes. We are for private property rights and free enterprise upon which this great country was founded.

Sen.Vitter and Rep. Boustany might want to reconsider their endorsement if they feel that the voting record of Councilman Bertrand fits that which denotes conservative criteria.

Congress has an 18% approval rating...the lowest in history. What does it take to make the elected men and women understand and hear what the citizens are saying...They spend the money and we pick up the tab...over and over again!
STOP THE SPENDING! STOP WITH THE CONSTANT THREAT TO LEVY MORE TAXES. GET RID OF THE RED LIGHT CAMERAS and the SPEED VANS!

Creat an atmosphere where business can flourish through free enterprise and true entreprenuership upon which this country was founded..not by TIF-Districts which clearly create favoritism, cronyism and higher prices for the citizen at every corner.

The people have a right to keep more of the money that they earn...to spend what they earn as they choose...to educate their children, provide for their families and to just enjoy...There is more to the creation of a great community than economic development...with government in search of more and more taxes at each and every corner. ..government on every level is in a tax and spend mode and the citizen is expected to pick up the tab...Enough Already!

It shall always be Red as long as Monsewer Durel is pandering to his cronys. Ahhhh, we'll see when joey loses by his britches where the cronys will go, crawl under their rock again like the snakes they are, see em slithering along the ground.

I dislike Little Donnie intensely. Not only do I agree that he is a Durel lackey, but I am convinced he lacks even a whit of moral fiber. He's called out all the "heavy-hitters" and they've come. He's claimed to know what it's like to have raised a family because he married a woman with already-grown children. He consorts with David Vitter. He's a spineless git!
