Comeaux seeking re-election

Lafayette Parish Assessor Conrad Comeaux is seeking a fourth term in office. The chief tax official in the parish, a Republican, announced the bid in a recent letter to supporters via the Conrad Comeaux Campaign encouraging them to purchase tickets for a Sept. 1 fundraiser to be held at River Oaks. Ticket prices per couple range from $500 to $2,500.

Comeaux was first elected assessor in 1999 and ran unopposed in 2003 and 2007. However, in his fundraising letter he indicates that an “individual in Lafayette is planning to challenge me in the October election.” Comeaux doesn’t identify that challenger and this newspaper is so far unaware of one.

Qualifying for the Oct. 22 election is Sept. 6-8.

I will NOT vote for him.

The prices of real estate have gone down TREMENDOUSLY since he assessed them four years ago. They were peaking at the time.

His presentation to the LCG Council during budget hearings last week, indicate he expects the SAME tax this year.

SHAME ON YOU CONRAD COMEAUX.

We should have lower assessments and tax bills!

Thanks for reminding me to go out and vote on Oct. 22 for the candidate running against Conrad Comeaux. As long as the guy has a pulse and is not Brandon Shelvin I will be voting for him.

I hope there is a reasonable challenger. I am not happy with the way property taxes are applied. I remember Mr. Comeaux was critical of the previous assessor. As agencies try to cash in on the property tax cash cow, and as I hang on by my fingernails not to lose my home, I need to feel as if we're all carrying our tax lode (load). I just have never felt as if this dept head has had any concern about the well being of the average home/property owner. I really hope we have a viable choice.
