CPC to wrap up budget hearings

The Lafayette City-Parish Council is scheduled to conclude discussion beginning at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 13, on the proposed 2011-2012 budget for Lafayette Consolidated Government. The nine-member panel began combing through the budget in early August; final adoption is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The proposed budget submitted by City-Parish President Joey Durel in late July totals $543.3 million. The current 2010-2011 budget is roughly $614.3 million.

I am very interested in the contract renewal for the speed vans. I do not like any automatic renewals that can be approved & signed without council approval or input. I don't think its good business or good for the general public. It gives the appearance of something being "hidden", under the table so to speak. The danged garbage renewals sure haven't benefitted the public any. The public NEVER comes out for the better when there is no one pulling to keep costs down. I'd sure like to know if any "campaign" contributions resulted from any of those "renewal" contracts. I want to know the details of that Safespeed renewal.
