Stagg campaigns on YouTube

Democrat Mike Stagg, who is vying to unseat City-Parish President Joey Durel on Oct. 22, has taken his campaign to the Internet, releasing a commercial on the video-sharing website YouTube that takes Durel to task for what Stagg characterizes as cronyism.

“Joey Durel says he’s conservative, but he’s liberal with your money,” Stagg says at the beginning of the 30-second spot, which goes on to accuse his Republican opponent of breaking promises on the awarding of contracts with Lafayette Consolidated Government (see the full commercial below).

This isn’t the first time Stagg has given Durel the proverbial business in a YouTube video. Last May the independent IT consultant released a much longer video titled “Lafayette Sucker Tax” critical of LCG’s trash-disposal contract with Allied.

I'm glad to see someone is running against Durel, if for nothing else to (possibly) open a forum for debate about better ways to move Lafayette forward.

People! Have you forgotten what preceded Joey and his administration? What he has done for Lafayette is going to be hard to follow and the fact that no one other than this misfit, Stagg, was interested in running against him says it all I predict Durel wins with 70% of the vote, maybe more. any takers?

They have over a million dollars sitting in a fund, that was designated to go towards the improvents of roads, sidewalks, etc. But noooooooo, they wanna take it and pay themselves. What a freggin joke.. I would rather see those funds go to law enforcement for the betterment of our communities.............

"Have you forgotten what preceded Joey and his administration?"

This is a very good point. I don't LIKE Durel, but he has done a reasonable job as Mayor, he's not under investigation, LCG's debt picture is pretty good, and taxes are still relatively low. Although Durel is pretty bitchy, he is mild compared to past Mayors.

I agree, it could be A LOT worse than Durel.

Joey Durel is the head cheerleader for David Vitter a national embarressment to this state a sexual pervert and an admitted felon to me this disqualifies joey for any office especially in a community which calls itself "conservative".

Stagg is 100X more better for Lafayette than Durel. Google some of the interviews he's been giving. He is no clown; the real circus act involves Durel's illusionist feats of handing out your money to his buddies while maintaining all that "he's done for lafayette" has been good and fair to anyone but his friends. Stagg has the knowledge and skills to better lead Lafayette, from making public contracts competitive again (no brainer) utilizing our technology infrastructure to improve child and adult-citizen education, to the redflex situation, to actually making our city safe for things like pedestrian traffic and more efficient mass transportation models: Durel considers the current policies good enough; they never were.
