Conservative group targets candidates

The Taxpayers Union of Louisiana, an offshoot of the conservative National Taxpayers Union, is targeting members of the Legislature seeking re-election or hoping to move from one chamber to the other due to term limits who voted in 2008 to double their pay. The pay raise passed the Legislature, but Gov. Bobby Jindal, after initially signalling he would let the raise stand but who later acquiesced to intense public and media pressure, vetoed the measure.

Only one lawmaker on the TUL list — state Sen. Eric LaFleur, D-Ville Platte — is a target. To see the complete list of nearly 30 solons in the TUL crosshairs, click here.

Mike Michot is lucky not to be running. He voted to raise his own pay 300%. He also said that the legislators would be resigning in droves if the raise failed. NOT!! They still spend more to get elected than they will ever make (what is wrong with that picture). And I can assure you they don't spend that kind of money because they love Louisiana. It's about time someone takes these little piss-ants to the whipping shed!!

And Liberal groups don't do the same? Isn't this called freedom of speech? Freedom of expression? So, I guess it's bad according to Walter, the Grand Poo Bah of innuendo.

I took a pay cut a few yrs ago & haven't had it returned yet. I'm in no mood for an increase in my property taxes in order to give teachers & school board members a raise down the line. I'm in no mood to support career politicians who voted themselves huge raises & lifetime health benefits. I pay attention to those things & vote accordingly.

If we do have a revolution it will be because of the politicians and their friends. They will suck the taxpayers dry if we let them!

I would love to see more anti tax organizations come out against this huge propert tax the schl board employees are supporting. I'm convinced this is a push for raises a little down the line; it takes a while to collect the new taxes, and to support someone's cousins' cousin who is in construction or "consulting". I don't think we'll like what a 50 % increase in prop tx does to business in this parish & I'm disgusted the Chamber of Commerce has been so quiet. It makes me suspicious that its better for them to remain quiet.

Morrow: One of the first things they tell you as a Chamber member is do not respond to critics. They assume the issue will go away and people will move on to the next issue. They are really good at what they do. Look how they threw lil-boy Michot under the bus and he is one of them. They eat their young!! Have you ever listened to Rob Guidry. He sounds like a Stepford wife!!
