So little says so much about District 9 councilman

Surely it’s a mistake we thought at first, awaiting a clarification of some sort in today’s Daily Advertiser. But none came. District 9 City-Parish Councilman William Theriot has finally admitted to what we’ve been saying all along — he’s a do-nothing, propose-nothing representative of the good people of his district.

When Theriot was inducted into The Independent’s Couillon Hall of Fame in October 2010, we pointed out that in the previous three years he had voted “no” on every city-parish operations budget submitted while proposing nothing as an alternative or substitute.

In the Daily Advertiser’s 2011 Voters Guide, published Sunday (with a portion of P7G reproduced here), Theriot was asked to name his proudest achievement. His answer: None.

Theriot, who has won the endorsement of the TEA Party of Lafayette, was also the subject of last week’s Dumber Crunch.

But apparently, it only gets better as election day draws nearer.

Both sound good. We have too many politicians who got to "do something" which means spending our money on more bologna. Theriot has it correct, focus on roads, drainage, traffic, safety, and infrastructure. It's the "do somethings" who make a mess of everything.

It would seem as if Lelsie Turk, Walter Pierce, and company want someone who is a Durel lapdog and they want that someone to think and perform according to their agenda. As for Theriot's proudest achievment, he is a man of few words and his actions speak for themselves. I'll take Theriot over a hand picked by Durel con-artist like Campbell any day of the week. Campbell was picked by Durel because he'll rubber stamp everything Durel wants. Shame on you, Leslie and Walter. I hope, and I believe, Theriot will win and continue to represent the people of Distrct 9 the way the people elected him to. Remember, checks & balances must be maintained at any cost. Power does not corrupt. Absolute power corrupts. Lets not do that to Joey Durel by giving him absolute power.

I believe its unlikely that the Ind's ad hominem attacks on Theriot will work. In fact, they should backfire. Theriot wins.

Theriot has sent out a flyer taking credit for everything in his district...how dishonest. Yet he states that he has no accomplishments! The latter is factual, because the city of Youngsville along with the state, got the work done in Youngsville. Highway 733 was in the works long before Theriot and was a STATE project, not a parish project. Wakeup people. When a politician will be this dishonest when running for office, why would you trust him after he got in? This man is cheating the people of Milton as the manager of The Milton Water District and he will cheat the taxpayers once in office. Louisiana politics at its worst, just say the right things and people are satisified.

I see nothing independant in the Independant. This paper pushes the mayors agenda. Too bad for Lafayette

I do not know William Theriot nor am I in his district, however, I am pleased that he is willing to ask questions about the budget and is willing to ask questions of Durel. A council member has a job to perform independent of what the administration wants.

Can't wait until the print paper on Wednesday! No telling what kind of support the IND is going to try and give to Walter Campbell, Don Bertrand and all the other Durel brown-nosers!

"Can't wait until the print paper on Wednesday!"

I can't wait until the election on Saturday. When will we know?! I've only really watched local politics for 2-3 years, and I am very curious to see how Lafayette actually votes, as opposed to how Walter and theIND would like to believe it should vote.

I was always kidding about calling Mr. Theriot 'TheriNO', but my god, not ONCE in three years a 'YES' vote? I guess the name fits. Hard to believe he couldn't find in his thinking just one time to vote yes. Nice accomplishments too......

I approved this message

Southsider: Must like in the other recent IND post about Theriot where you commented, your comprehension skills are lacking.

Theriot has not gone 3 years without a YES vote. He has gone 3 years without voting YES on the Operational Budget. He has voted YES on other ordinances where he has seen fit.

Oh, and I too smell of politics by the Daily Advertiser. Something regarding journalistic integrity maybe??

To Bobby Boudoir, No one gave any power to Joey Do-Nuttin, Zooschlag and Fenstermaker bought the power for him in exchange for, Hmmmmm ? Oh, and we must not forget Doctor stewart .
And ragin_cajun, in a few years you'll be able to participate, you won't have to watch the election results on your lap top, gee-whiz, you'll be able to participate.
Theriot, has been cued and screwed: He is given a prepared list of questions ......and, the answers to the questions, politics is not
a one-way street, its a reciprocal avenue.
Theriot I should'nt have to tell YOU this : Here's the Skinny from Minnie : Because every Southsider and Sheltered Resident of River Ranch has neglected to cough up any redflex ticket money, " Northsiders are hereby granted the equal opportunity to negate ". Oh Hell, Tear The Mutha, Up !

THESE are our choices????? Disappointing. No wonder Lafayette is stuck. Notice that neither one appears to have any concerns whatsoever about education in Lafayette Parish. I bet there's better representation hiding under a rock somewhere in Dist. 9.........

Gobbley-Gook by Campbell : " I do believe that if the parish council wishes to review each and every contract upon renewal, then they should "......... Theriot would put it, I do believe that if the parish councilmen would get to read every contract PRIOR TO RENEWAL, we would not be, IN THIS SHITSTORM !
AMENNNNNNNN BROTHER !

RC...my comprehension skills aren't lacking. I read and understood the article. I didn't know i had to have your approval on commenting. But if even voting on a budget, i'm SURE this was at least ONE thing he could agree on and vote 'yes'. Since I have to assume your a TheriNO backer, what about his accomplishments?

Theri"no" does not care about our fine city and is only interested in sticking to his ideologies, no matter the circumstances. Simple thinking does not work in a complicated world. Voting no for Theriot!

In spite of the fact his district was chopped up to weaker his support, Theriot deserves to have another term if he wants it. I trust Theriot with my taxpayer money & find he's conservative. If he has more no votes than yes, it might be because the majority of the council is less fiscally conservative. I know Iberia parish govt isn't raising their budge, cut back to last year's & Laf parish could do the same if the council were so inclined. I'm comfortable with giving Theriot another term.

Yes Morrow, we want to use Iberia Parish as our guide for government. Its such a fine place that thousands of people are willing to drive 20 miles in heavy traffic just so they do not have to live there. Theriot ideologies would create a Mississippi style town with no culture, arts, or attractions. Great... we can all go to Wal-Mart on Saturdays and then eat at Wendy's. Its a Theriot Utopia.

Seems like people support a candidate, that by his own admission and most observations has done nothing for his community, just because the paper that reports this is a lapdog of the mayor. Wow there's some tortured logic that goes into election statutes to vote no. How about an alternative plan? Suggestion for improvements? Anything but NO?

Northside Shotgun,

As I read your MANY posts against Joey, Walter and just about everyone in Lafayette on the Independents blogs. I have one question...

Why don't YOU run for political office? You seem to have it all figured out and know how to do the job better.. or at least go to a council meeting to try to help the problems we do have..

PS: I think you have a crush on Joey..

Iberia parish & New Iberia are fine communities & many people who reside in Laf parish were reared there... and its beautiful too. I applaud their govt for at least attempting to function within the budget they have & not come to taxpayers every year for more money. What's to dis about that?

I am very grateful for Theriot's win. I may not agree with him on some issues, but I sure didn't think the council needed another yes man. And when it comes budget time, I WANT someone questioning the numbers, not just "yessss sirring" it on through. I believe there is a whole lot of room for more fiscal responsibility in this parish's governmental agencies but no one is insisting on it. I'm sure Mr. Campbell is a good man, but I just didn't get the impression he is his own man & would be willing to buck the administration or even the rest of the council.
