Comeaux joins Durel in backing Doise

       Assessor Conrad Comeaux

Support from mainstream Republican elected officials in Lafayette Parish for City-Parish Council District 6 candidate Jared Doise continues to mount. Over the weekend, Assessor Conrad Comeaux emailed supporters urging them to back Doise. It is the second such endorsement in the last few days for Doise, who owns the chain of Legends bars in Lafayette; on Friday City-Parish President Joey Durel emailed his supporters asking them to vote for and contribute to Doise’s campaign.

The Louisiana Restaurant Association has joined the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce in backing Doise. His opponent in the Nov. 19 runoff, fellow Republican Andy Naquin, has been endorsed by the Acadian Home Builders Association and the Tea Party of Lafayette, among others. A source tells The Ind that incumbent Sam Doré, who was ousted in the Oct. 22 primary, will throw his support behind Doise on Tuesday.

While Comeaux, who ran unopposed in the most recent election cycle, cites Doise’s business savvy for his endorsement, he also takes exception to a specific paragraph in an Oct. 26 fundraising letter Naquin mailed to supporters. Comeaux’s full letter is reproduced below.

In 2003 when a restaurant/bar opened at the entrance to my neighborhood, Holden Heights, I expected the worst. Through the years, however, I’ve come to respect whoever the owner was. It’s a place that is a favorite of UL Lafayette fans and supporters, Holden Heights residents and others who enjoy sharing a great burger and beverages with friends.

Little did I know that the owner — Jared Doise — had an interest in the growth and management of Lafayette Parish and that he would run for the District 6 seat. Jared is an accomplished businessman who is involved in our community.

Jared took a boarded-up convenience store and turned it into a respectable establishment that has thrived for eight years, in a business category that has the highest rate of failure. That takes courage and determination. Over eight years, he set his sights on other eyesores in our community and did the same — returned them to commerce.

Jared is now engaged in a tough run-off election where his opponent has crossed the line when it comes to campaigns by engaging a personal issue. His opponent’s fundraising letter dedicated an entire paragraph to subtly informing readers that Jared and his wife “have no children yet,” going beyond anyone’s definition of decency. It is and was intended as a backhanded insult and that is exactly how readers of Mr. Naquin’s letter have taken it. It was unnecessary, insulting and disgraceful.

Friends, government can work most effectively with leaders like Jared who have management experience, who understand the importance of teamwork and who possess vision. Divisiveness without compromise has no place in government. Opportunities are missed, citizens go unserved and growth and economic development falter.

On Tuesday, November 8, Jared is having a fundraiser from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at iMonelli Restaurant on Johnston Street. I am asking you to join me in supporting this successful businessman in his race for City-Parish Council.

Contributions, up to the limit of $1,000, should be made payable to Jared Doise Campaign and either mailed to 912 Robert Lee Circle, Lafayette, LA 70506 or dropped off at the fundraiser.

Let’s help elect Jared Doise!

Best wishes,

Conrad T. Comeaux

Sounds like Andy Naquin has crossed the line when it comes to campaigning. Why did he feel it necessary to bring Jared Doise's personal life into the race. Low blow. If Naquin is willing to campaign this way does that say something about his character? Will he be this petty as an elected official? Thanks Andy for making this one easy, vote Jared Doise.

Conrad Comeaux also endorsed Kathleen Blanco for governor - and we all know how that worked out!

"Will he be this petty as an elected official? "

Well, if he wants to be a councilman in THIS parish, he'd damn well BETTER be this petty. Because he'll be dealing with Joey Durel and Don Bertrand, and a whole pit of vipers.

They're politicians, they're all petty. It's like a job requirement. A REAL adult wouldn't run for office. It's just that simple.

Conrad Comeaux is probably looking for support when he faces a challenger 4 years from now. He is more of a politican than an assessor.

Let me translate both Durel and Comeaux's endorsement
"Andy Naquin won't do as he is told....he insists on putting the taxpayer first and the government second, and we can't have that. Besides, I have come to enjoy the 7-2 edge on issues that I mandate,....don't want to see that change to 6-3"

Hey bb3, you are wrong! Andy IS doing exactly as he is told, by the tea party. The old school politics they employ is just that, getting old. I have not read, heard, etc. ONE not one specific cut Andy wants to go after. Only vague references to NGO or the like. Hey lets cut Fiber, can't have something that brings jobs. WAIT, THE HORSE FARM, who needs a park that adds to the quality of life here. Red Flex, (oops tea party people tried to get their own company in but didn't get the contract!) lets not touch that too much. Negative campaigning because he has nothing positive to add (or so he is told.)

Jared Doise is a facad....There is an alterior motive for this position I can assure you... If you elect him, you will see. He is a user of many...and continues on until he is finished with you...He is not an upright, ethical citizen, by any means...

Hey Doise is a yes man. Follow the leader who just got sentenced to community service by the courts. Seems to me thats it just falls in line to the already same old stuff. Think about it why would these guys want a bar owner on the council. He needs a go cup or something. This is really outrageous he get an endorsement from a leader (so-called) that wont even acknowledge a court order as all that important to follow. Just another one of those attempts to ron the table. I really dont see the benefit of these endorsements. Personal gain and nothing else. It surely isnt the best interest of this city theyre looking out for. Coullion you are living up to your name. You know absolutly nothing about Andy Naquin. This is sickening to the core. Check out all the Doise signs most of them are in Right of Ways. Not at residences or businesses just where ever he felt like it. Trashing the city already.

I can't vote in that district. My friends who can, are not comfortable with career politicians endorsing candidates. Why the heck would Comeaux use his position, when half of Laf parish is already ticked with him for protecting his land owning friends & relatives, to promote someone? I have to say it makes everyone suspicious of the candidate & the endorsing politician. If I could vote in this race, I'd be running for the man the other guys are afraid of, & I've vote Naquin. I have to hope Naquin gets in.

Since I have no use for or faith in the Chamber of Commerce (who didn't say a peep to protect businesses when the prop tax was up... how is that representing business???) if they're for it, I'd look closely as to why. If I couldn't find a good reason why, I'd vote Naquin just for safety. WHY THE RESTAURANTS WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE IN LOSING BUSINESS BY ENDORSING A CANDIDATE, I HAVEN'T A CLUE. YOU CAN BET UNTIL THE ELECTION, WHEN I EAT OUT, I WILL BE ASKING IF THEY ARE MEMBERS OF THE REST ASSOC!!! They should be cooking, not interfering in political campaigns. I'm hoping Naquin gets in, just for the fun of it.

Conrad defines his most obvious traits which are also shared by Andy Naquin "unnecessary, insulting and disgraceful.
Any one in the race who is endorsed by the biggest lowlife under the table bid-lets to his crony Acadian Ambulance owner Mr. Zooschlag deserves to lie with the cooties in bed together.

All the negativism and mud slinging tends to distract from the facts. Jared is hard working, honest, tell it like it is, concerned businessman who has worked hard for all he and his family has achieved. He has never had his hand out for "give me's", he has never been a "yes man" to anyone. He may be a "bar owner" but maintains high standards for his business and employees (must be actively persuing furthered education so that they are not "career bartenders"). Look at the candidates equally, look at their achievements and beliefs, listen to what they say and compare their words to their actions (actions show the true person). If a "real" man is who you want to represent, care/provide for, and speaks FOR the citizens, vote Jared Doise LCG District 6.

You said it. Whats wrong with a career bartender? So Basically Jared is saving the world from the effects of having too many career bartenders. And he is doing this through owning bars what a genius. Who woulda thought of that. That may even end alcoholism as we know it. What a joke

After reading this weeks's Ind, looking at the waste disposal facility, Comeaux's endorsement makes we wonder what his connection is to that situation. Why would Comeaux, who we already know has his own agendas, interfere in a council race??? It doesn't make a lot of sense out on the street, unless Comeaux if fearful of Savoy in some way. Off hand, I was just wondering if there's a connection to the facility... These endorsements have the Joe on the street scratching his head wondering why all of a sudden career politicians are interested in beating Savoy.
