Doré endorses Doise

Doise_Dore
District 6 CPC hopeful Jared Doise, left, receives the backing of incumbent
Sam Doré, who was ousted in the Oct. 22 primary after one term in office.

As expected, District 6 City-Parish Councilman Sam Doré endorsed Jared Doise in the Nov. 19 runoff against Andy Naquin. The backing of Doré, who was eliminated from the race when he placed third in the Oct. 22 primary, was anticipated as early as late last week. The announcement was made at an 11 a.m. press conference at Legends on Bertrand Drive, one of several bars Doise owns in the Hub City.

Backed by the Tea Party of Lafayette, the Acadian Home Builders Association and robust campaign contributions, Naquin placed first in the three-man field on Oct. 22, garnering 43 percent of the vote to Doise’s 32 percent; Doré received 25 percent.

The runoff has over the last several days revealed a rift in Republican politics in Lafayette Parish, with mainstream elected officials — City-Parish President Joey Durel and Assessor Conrad Comeaux — urging supporters to back Doise against what they perceive to be a creeping Tea Party influence in parish politics. In an email Friday to supporters, Durel asked voters in District 6 to not “send me another person that is simply “against,” a reference to Councilmen William Theriot (District 9) and Jared Bellard (District 5) who have often been at odds with the Durel administration’s fiscal prerogatives and who won narrow re-election victories on Oct. 22.

Naquin, meanwhile, is not a member of the Tea Party of Lafayette, but he tells The Ind he shares many of their views on government: “They’re for smaller government, less taxes, more efficiency, more responsibility. Name we one thing that’s bad in that regard,” Naquin says. “I feel like they’re standing for what I’m standing for.”

Read more about the battle between the mainstream and Tea Party factions in Republican politics in Lafayette in Wednesday’s cover story of The Independent, online by midnight and in racks early.

What job was Sam promised? He was endorsed by the same group that is backing Doise. People see through the "we luv Lafatette B.S." The tea party is for the people!

Does Doise know what this does to him in the eyes of the district six voters? You had a chance, now your finished. Do you think anyone who voted for you the first time wanted to keep him.

Payroll for a bar owner is paying his bar tenders and bar backs, who by the way do not get paid minimum wage, but make most of thier money off of tips, right?

Wasn't one of the main reasons Doise decided to run was because of the extra taxes/fees that Durel and Dore passed onto bar owners? Or was it because of the go-cup ban that Durel and Dore both pushed?

What has Mr. Doise been promised in order to get in with the two guys who pushed ordinances aimed at punishing his line of business?

So you'd rather a puppet from the Tea Party? Too bad our local Tea Party just doesn't get it...national Tea Party views don't work for local government. Guess you're ok with a "No" vote for everything presented to the council just like the other 2 Tea Party puppets.

If you'd only educate yourself and form your own educated opinions instead of listening to propaganda, oh wait, that actually takes work, and you'd rather sit back, be lazy and sound ignorant. Sounds to me that Doise will actually make up his own mind instead of being a puppet, there's no evidence at all that he'd be a yes man.

being arrested for Bookmaking is the tip of the iceberg as to the activities he has had at his bars and could have been arrested for in the past 10 years.. He was lucky...He is a low life, not a leader....Ask him if he has been involved in any illegal activity since owning his "bars". That is all he knows, is the bar business... Real classy guy...

Good stuff man. Really good stuff. Especially if you have been following this council. Sam has moved from Hand signals at the council meetings (One finger=Yes Two=No) to reading a speech. Good stuff. The Voters of this District have already spoken Sam is through. going down in the history books as the biggest deadbeat to ever be on the Council. He just got endorsed by the Candidate who won (THE BIGGEST LOSER) award. This is outrageous stuff and I expect ir will backfire on them. Funny thing I would love to see the tax records of these fifty employees Jared employees. I bet it aint much and everyones knows no one pays taxes on tips. Im sure he hasnt help this city all that much. VOTE FOR ANDY he is not reading cue cards.

When did owning a business become a negative in this country. Sounds to me like the local tea party people writing here are more aligned with occupy wall street thugs than conservatives.
Check out how many tea party people supported both financially and voted for the liberals on the council and for the CP president position. Its all public record if you really are interested. Hypocrisy reigns supreme. AGAIN, will Naquin please let us know EXACTLY what he proposes to cut, police? firemen? drainage? Where will he reduce government - local. I'm truly interested and like most favor a more efficient government. I just want to hear what he is for. Tired of hearing what people are against. Nothing said here has convinced me that Naquin is the better of the two. Does Andy Naquin have any skeletons in his past? Should we ask that question of him? Lets check some records, it might get interesting.

True to form Dore' Still doing what he is told, only now for free. What a loser. Maybe in 3 yrs when Durel has to go back to selling frogs and fish he'll have him to clean the cages. Newsflash: Councilmen are supposed to vote the way their constiuents want them too not the way Durel wants, Kudos to Bellard and Theriot. Funny he didnt endorse anyone in the primary. He should have kept it that way.

Jared laughed at Sam and made fun of him during the first primary. Now he stands next to him and gets his endorsement. What a sleeze ball. Looks like he will do anything to get elected. Sam don't think he will be nice after the election.

OK I get it. Both Doise and Naquin went to U.L. they both live in district 6 and have lived in Lafayette a long time. The only difference is Doise is a bar owner. I don't want a bar owner watching the money. Go to the bar and have a drink and bet on football but don't let him count the money.

From nothing to do: "Newsflash: Councilmen are supposed to vote the way their constituents want them too.." Last I understood we elect people that we hope will vote the way we (constituents) believe. Elected officials shouldn't stick their finger in the air and vote the way the majority WANTS them to. Vote contrary to the way your constituents want and you don't get re-elected, thats how it works. A BAR OWNER, EGAD! We can't have someone that understands business. Better to have someone that is TOLD how to sell a 2x4 and a bag of nails. Those that can - do, the others just do what those that can - employ them to do.

TO: ???????????????. What we really need are "rational adults" running instead of people who are intent on tearing other people apart. I want to hear what Naquin and Doise think about the ISSUES not what they think about EACH OTHER. And as for endorsements--everyone should just shut up and let the voters of District 6 make up their own minds.

I find the Comments By ??????? and enoughalready interesting. Since the mud slinging began with the guys who started this rediculous endorsement baloney. Alie is a lie. In court they as do you swear to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Ok well no mudslinging needed Just read the Doise push card not the whole truth. NOT nothing but the truth, half truths and exagarrations. That my friend is not mud slinging that is bringing to light what the truth is. Fact is fact and you cant run from that. Sam I am (Not) was not elected for doing the exact same thing he did on tuesday. Exactly was he was told and not what he was elected to do. There is clearly an agenda here by these people and nothing else. The people of this city are not the consideration. You cant paint a wall white and tell us its blue. Its like blowing sunshine up the >>> I was given permission by my 8th grade teacher to teach the class for one day. I am a professor? WTH?

it doesn't matter who started the mudslinging.....I don't think doise, naquin, durel, comeaux and most humans would want the WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH to come to light. All sides have an AGENDA---to get their candiate elected--that is NOT a one way street. There is only one perfect BEING and HE is not running but HE does know the WHOLE TRUTH........"do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
