Robideaux endorses Naquin

State Rep. Joel Robideaux, R-Lafayette, has endorsed City-Parish Council candidate Andy Naquin in Saturday’s runoff against fellow Republican Jared Doise for the City-Parish Council District 6 seat.

Robideaux has confirmed the endorsement, which was announced on Naquin’s campaign website, saying in the announcement, “I am proud to endorse Andy Naquin to serve as my city-parish councilman. Andy is the fair-minded, thoughtful and fiscally conservative leader we need on the council. I look forward to working closely with Andy for the next four years.”

A resident of CPC District 6, Robideaux was elected speaker pro tem of the state House of Representatives last year. He was elected to a third term in the House on Oct. 22.

With all the ink you've given his opponent, you might have at least printed Mr. Naquin's statement in the endorsement announcement:

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Representative Joel Robideaux. As a resident of the District, and our State Representative, Joel understands the needs of our area well . I pledge to work closely with Mayor Durel, my Council colleagues and the members of our legislative delegation on issues that are important to our community. I understand the importance of a strong working relationship between City-Parish government and our legislators." - Andy Naquin

We may soon learn who carries more weight amongst voters, especially Republicans, in Lafayette: State Rep. Joel Robideaux or Mayor Joey Durel.

I wonder if tomorrow, the IND will publish an article about how Rep. Robideaux's confirmation proves that Andy Naquin might not be the close-minded "teabagger" he was painted as in last week's cover story?

Joel endorsed Jay Darden and he won. Joey was all in with Cambell and Leger and they both lost. Jared it was fun while it lasted.

I wonder if theIND will publish an article about how Rep. Robideaux is a traitor to the cause of progressivism in the new Republican party.

Joel and Bobette Robideaux have known Andy and Peggy Naquin for a long time. Joel and Andy both went to Fatima. This is simply mutual personal and professional respect. No intrigue necessary.

What a positive endorsement of a positive candidate!

Contrast this with the Durel & Comeaux endorsement for Doise, nothing but hatred and venom toward Naquin.

This tells much about one's character when Durel will throw a life-long friend under the bus for political power, a very small man indeed and in deed.

Check out the two candidates web sites...

Jared douse= only positive remarks.
Andy naquin= negative stabs at his opponent.

I always check out the web sites and vote for the one that does not sling mud. I detest negative campaigns.

One candidate will be able to hold his head up high after this election. Win or Lose!!!!

If I had to guess--neither is telling whole truth about the other or themselves which is why they shouldn't have started these negative comments. No one and I do mean NO ONE would like the whole truth to come out. Stop this insanity right now before any more damage is done. There are humans on both sides that should have some personal dignity if they want to represent me on the council. The primary was run fairly clean but this mudfest makes me wish Dore had won

Joel Robideaux is a NOT the great representative he has gotten the reputation for being. Even Jindal sees this. Remember, he Robideaux is the man who said he would not go with other representtatives to view damage caused by Katrina becuase it was tax season and he was busy. Yes, a really dedicated public servant. So, what political philosophy does he have? NONE, other than "I'll do what I can to help me." Independent to Republican in the blink of an eye for personal advantage. He can switch horses faster than the Lone Ranger and Tonto but what has he done for his constituents? Nada!

I agree the two endorsements of Mr. Naquin's opposition were very negative & derogatroy. It makes a difference. Their statements were so full of criticism, my thoughts went directly to "Why the heck would they care? Don't they have bigger things to worry about...." I was offended by their actions. I won't be able to vote, but it turns out a large # of people I know will vote in that race, & they're wondering the same thing. It will be interesting to see who's supporters turn out cause I think it will be down to who can get more of their people to actually vote.

The "negative" comments from Naquin are just stating the truths. Ask Jared what kind of business he owns and he will not say straight up that he is a bar owner. Shows how proud he is of it and his insecurities about it. Doise used Durel to through the negative comments first. Naquin is just saying the truth while Doise is stating all lies, saying Naquin is against all kind of organizations like girl scouts, helping the poor, children's museum. Naquin's girls all were girl scouts, he donates to the poor every week at church, and helped build the children's museum. You really think he is against all of that?! Do you really want a liar in office representing you? Please do your research District 6!!!

Andy is against non governmental funding, just like Theriot & Bellard. They support the very things that you are talking about: museums, helping the poor. He went door to door saying these things and he definately said he was against the fiber project. Now that he has been called on the carpet, he has changed his tune. So who is the liar?

If Andy is not against both non governmental funding and the fiber project, how about posting that on his web site instead of all the negative things about his opponent.

It is funny how negative he is in the name of "telling the so called truth". Is an establishment that sells beer and burgers, not a business? If not, tell that to most of the places we all frequent in Lafayette. We see right thru that!!!

written by Andy Supporter , November 17, 2011 - 04:52 pm
The problem with these claims about Andy is that he has been a visible supporter of Arts & Culture in Lafayette his entire adult life. Andy is a long time Festival volunteer. Along with Doug Ashy, Andy has done a great deal for the Festivals, the Children's Museum, and a host of other local organizations.

Andy has made clear that the nation's financial crisis is going to eventually impact our local economy, and that we have to implement a long-term strategy for keeping key organizations strong and vital when taxpayer funding becomes more difficult. In this respect, comparing Andy Naquin to Bellard and Theriot is simply an empty political talking point.

And with respect to his opponent, there is nothing at all wrong with beer and burgers. But holding yourself out to be a business impresario and 'former UL professor' in your campaign literature while not mentioning that you're in the bar business, and taught bartending for less than a year -- is fundamentally dishonest. It's as fundamentally dishonest as saying Andy will cut everything because he doesn't care about people.

If he fudged a resume' or job application that way -- he'd be fired.

Andy is not against arts & culture. He is against government subsidizing the salaries and operations of these groups while REAL governmental responsibilities, such as drainage, are being pushed aside.

I don't see Acadiana Arts Council clearing out gullies to keep homeowners' yards and homes from flooding.
