Robideaux halts speaker run

House Speaker Pro Tem Joel Robideaux confirmed Tuesday that he is ending his campaign for speaker of the House.

The Lafayette Republican said after several meetings with Rep. Chuck Kleckley of Lake Charles, whom Gov. Jindal is supporting, and candid conversations with his supporters about how best to serve the state, he decided to end his campaign for speaker and support Kleckley in his bid.

Citing education, pension reform, health care, roads and transportation, workforce, and coastal restoration, Robideaux said in a prepared statement that important issues facing the state factored into his decision. Robideaux noted his close working relationship with Gov. Jindal over the last four years and said he looks forward to helping him push through additional key legislative reforms critical to the state’s future.

Robideaux, who changed his party affiliation from independent to Republican in September in hopes of winning the governor's support for his speaker bid, could not be reached for further comment. Robideaux once again shows his lack of intestinal fortitude. He talks the talk and that's about all he does.

Truth is, Rep. Robideaux NEVER had the votes. He didn't have them before Jindal announced his favorite horse in the race.

Simply put, Rep. Robideaux flip-flopped and sold out on too many issues and votes to be trusted.

He tried to tell everyone that he was the one who would be "independent" of the Governor. However, brief memory takes us back to last legislative session. The House voted FOR extending the 12 cent cigarette tax. Joel voted YEA that first time. Then came the vote to over-ride Gov. Jinal's veto. Joel bowed down to the wishes of the Master and voted NO.

Joel really bungled this whole thing. I though he had the potential to be a player on the La. political scene when I met him a few years ago. Looks like he'll be fighting to stay relevant after this.

The shoe is tight when its on the other foot. So wonder boy was screwed by the other wonder boy... You know these people think they're so much better, smarter, than the rest of us, they absolutely believe what they do is okay, moral, ethical. The hunting trips, the exchanges, the gifts. Literally selling their souls for a few pieces of silver. But they send their kids to parochial schools & they'll have their butts in church on Sun. and they want the Ten Commandments posted in the courtroom... Jeez, I sure hope Jindal goes back to D.C. after this term.
