N.O. Bowl Update – Saturday, 12/17, Noon

NEW ORLEANS – Okay, so you can’t get to New Orleans tonight to experience the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl for yourself.

There are many options to keep up with all the action and all the activities, and some of them run all day long. Of course, updates will be available right here on www.theind.com both before, during and after the game along with photos and other info you probably won’t get anywhere else.

Several broadcast-media outlets will be providing coverage, including ESPN’s national broadcast which begins at 8 p.m. Kickoff is set officially at 8:06 p.m., but there is a five-minute “sliding” window that could push kickoff back to 8:11 p.m. should today’s two earlier bowl games – the New Mexico Bowl (Temple vs. Wyoming in Albuquerque at 1 p.m.) and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Ohio vs. Utah State in Boise at 4:30 p.m.) – run late.

ESPN’s broadcast is in HD, and those who have 3D television sets can watch what ESPN is hyping as the first-ever bowl game in 5D (it’s a combination of 2D and 3D).

The folks at KPEL-AM/Sports Radio ESPN 1420 and the Ragin’ Cajun network always encourage fans to watch the TV but “turn down the sound” and listen to UL’s broadcast. A special two-hour pre-game show airs on that network (1420 AM, 107.9 FM) at 6 p.m. with Jay Walker and Steve Peloquin.

Those stations also have coverage all day, with KPEL/Sports Radio ESPN beginning coverage at noon from Walk-On’s on Poydras Street. That airs on KPEL until 2 p.m. and airs on Hot 107.9 from 2-6 p.m. leading up to the pre-game show.

There’s also television coverage provided by Acadiana-area stations. KATC-TV Channel 3 will air “Cajun Countdown to Kickoff” from 6:15-7 p.m. with Travis Webb and Andy Burrell, and KLFY-TV Channel 10 will have live coverage from the Superdome floor from 6-6:30 p.m. with George Faust and Jeff Horchak. KLFY also has a 30-minute preview special, “Cajun Invasion,” that aired Friday night and is available online (www.klfy.com).

COX4 will be going right up to kickoff with coverage, airing a 30-minute pregame show at 7:30 p.m. entitled “Ragin’ Cajuns: A Season to Believe,” with Jimmy Frederick.
