Roemer’s last stand?

buddy_custerThe end is likely nigh for former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer in his bid to capture the Republican presidential nomination. Roemer basically put all his eggs in a granite basket — New Hampshire, where he actually took up residence last summer to campaign virtually full-time while more or less ignoring other election fields like Iowa — and despite a message that needs to be heard (the corrupting influence of money on American politics), he’s failed to get any traction in the small New England state.

Roemer has also reportedly poured all of his financial resources — south of a meager quarter of a million dollars — into the Granite State, yet he’s polling at less than 1 percent. He was also not invited to the latest round of GOP debates over the weekend.

New Hampshire holds the second contest in the nominating process Tuesday with its primary, and barring some Tim Tebow-esque miracle, the north Louisiana banker will likely fold tent and head back to the Bayou State.
