Hub City crime rate falls

Lafayette Police are attributing a second consecutive annual drop in the city’s crime rate to community involvement, law enforcement adaptability and new technology. While there was an increase in calls for service and total arrests, crime in all major categories fell. Overall, violent- and property crimes fell 6 percent in 2011.

In a press release touting the crime reduction, Chief Jim Craft says, “It is a constant battle to stay on top of changing trends by the criminals, but we feel the men and women of the Lafayette Police Department are answering the challenge.”
