It's not quite holiday time yet, but the Junior League is gearing up for its September Tinsel & Treasures event. The sponsor party last week at à la carte kicked off a series of events leading up to the big show and celebrated all the sponsors who help make the four-day shopping event possible. Linda Lemoine Bordelon, Gail Romero, Richard Tanory, Glenn Pritchard, Annette Myers, Ann Knight and Pat Olson were thanked for their contributions. In addition to à la carte's scrumptious seafood spread of crab dip, marinated crab claws and shrimp pasta, martinis and cosmos were served in hip cobalt blue glasses. Party Girl was impressed! There was also a buzz in the air over the annual automobile raffle; this year, it's a candy apple-red Dodge Durango. Pick up your tickets at the first Downtown Alive! Sept. 9 or the UL game on Sept. 17, and mark your calendar for T&T's Preview Party Sept. 21. Party Girl can hardly wait!
The grand opening of United Way of Acadiana's new office in the old Schilling Distribution facility was also quite exciting. President Margaret Trahan says the new building is special, because it's United Way's first permanent home. We all know how hard moving is! Margaret looked elegant in a white suit and was her usual energetic self, welcoming Herb and Renee Schilling, Scott Schilling, Kenny Hix, Joey Durel, Robert Torian, Jerry Greig, Donna Landry, Nancy Van Eaton, Bruce Conque and Mike Barras. In addition to cutting the ribbon, the event recognized this year's Pacesetter companies, who've pledged to raise $1 million in one month. And Herbert Schilling was presented with a football autographed by Jake Delhomme, Kevin Faulk, Ricky Bustle and the entire United Way board. "The place was packed," says Marketing Director Jeremy Broussard. "We had a great turnout."
