The Eleventh UL Alumni Spring Gala was held March 31 at the UL Alumni House on St. Mary Boulevard. The evening started with a slight sprinkle and ended with clear skies. Gala honoree Jim Doyle unfortunately couldn't make it because of health reasons, but his former football teammates and friends of the alumni association were there in his honor. Doyle's teammates were asked to stand and be recognized that evening. As soon as Jim returns home, the UL Alumni will have a small reception for him. The evening consisted of fine food, drinks, and entertainment by The Chris Hare Jazz Trio. What a great way to raise money for an event: a live auction and a silent auction that consisted of attractive items such as original art and travel packages. Alex Caldwell of VivianAlexander designed an outstanding egg purse for this event. The "UL Spring Gala 07" egg purse found a new home that evening, thanks to high bidders Kenneth and Jane Blanchard during the live auction. Ellen Patton had the highest bid in the silent auction for Vermilion Parish Iris, the Elemore Morgan Jr. painting commissioned especially for the gala. Martin Audiffred, president-elect of the Alumni Association, served as chair of this event, and President Theresa Gaspard was the mistress of ceremonies. Among the guests were Steve and Sandra Moore, Gerald Judice, Rose Hare, Dovie Brady and Nancy Crawford.

More dazzling art was on display at Jefferson Street Market's Galerie Lafayette during the March Artwalk, as visitors were enraptured by Amy Guidry's exhibit, Beneath the Surface. Her works ranged from action portraits to social commentary. Guests were impressed by how lifelike the paintings were and left to ponder their deeper meanings. Guidry and her husband Zack posed for Party Girl in front of one of Amy's painting titled Complacent, but she and her artwork aren't content to stay in one place for too long!
