It may have been a little nail-biting at times, especially when four illegal pitches were called on UL Lafayette freshman sensation Ashley Brignac in the last two innings of Sunday's championship game, but in the end it wasn't even close. This past weekend's regional softball tournament belonged to the Cajuns, who squashed rival LSU at Tiger Park on Saturday, 9-4, and again Sunday, 6-3, to advance to the local program's first-ever Super Regional. No. 15 nationally ranked (coaches' poll) LSU was seeded first in the tournament and UL second.

Ranked 16th nationally, the Cajuns face the No. 10 (No. 8 in post-season tournament rankings) Houston Cougars, also playing in their first Super Regional since the format change in post-season play was instituted in 2005. In late April, the Cajuns split a double-header with Houston, which has never made it this far in post-season play.

The Cajuns reached the College World Series four times since 1993; the winner of this weekend's tournament will advance to the Oklahoma City series May 28-June 4.

The Cajuns and Cougars play a best two out of three. Friday's game is at 7 p.m. followed by a noon game Saturday and, if necessary, a 3 p.m. game. All-Session prices are $25 for adults and $15 for children. Only all-session packages are available prior to game day. Students of the participating schools, with valid student ID, can purchase one student ticket at the gate for $5. Single-game tickets will go on sale at the gate one hour before the start of the first game each day. For more information, click here.
